Sometimes the best part of our journey with Grauls Wine & Spirits New Item Caravan is popping open our luggage (yes, we still travel with a steamer trunk) when we get home and being flooded with memories of the great wineries and people we've visited.

This week's find is just such an example - Bezel Wines are a venture of the world famous Cakebread Winery featuring wines from the central coast of California.
The chardonnay and pinot noir hail from San Luis Obispo Coast and the cabernet from Paso Robles - Cakebread recognized the wonderful wines coming out of this increasingly popular region and wanted to make wines representative of the best it can offer.

This week's Grauls Wine & Spirits new item focus highlights a classic sparkling wine from Italy.

Cantina di Sobrara's Lambrusco "Emma" is not the Lambrusco of your youth - made in the classic style of sparkling Lambruscos, it is a lively and refreshing experience. The dominant flavors of red berries and citrus are beautifully balanced by the wine's crisp acidity and subtle minerality, with a hint of rose petals and fresh herbs adding complexity and depth.

The Emma Lambrusco di Sorbara from Cantina di Sorbara is an exceptionally versatile wine that pairs well with a wide range of dishes. Continuing with our avian theme for another week, Grauls Wine & Spirits' new item spotlight shines on this gem from Washington state Canvasback Wines' Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2022.

Home to some of Washington State’s most celebrated vineyards, Red Mountain is renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon. With ideal southwest-facing slopes and significant day and nighttime temperature swings, this small but highly prized area in Eastern Washington produces exceptional wines. Named for the Canvasback duck, which is native to the Pacific Flyway, this wine was crafted from grapes cultivated by some of Red Mountain’s finest growers.

From its inviting aromas of Damson plum, blueberry, black licorice and sarsaparilla to its holiday spice undercurrents of cardamom and cinnamon, this tantalizing wine rises from the glass beckoning a first sip. On the palate, a lovely mélange of dark red and black fruit flavors glide across plush tannins, with hints of incense, earth and graphite adding depth and nuance to a long, mineral-driven finish.

This week's New Item Spotlight at Grauls Wine & Spirits shines on Blue Quail Chardonnay.

The McFadden Family has been raising grapes organically since 1970 on their farm straddling the Russian River at 1200 foot altitude.

Their Chardonnay is vinified using no oak, so it represents a true picture of the characteristics of the grape without the masking of oak and makes for a much more food-friendly wine. The nose is of a full bouquet of peach blossoms, then the palate follows with crisp flavors of apple and white peach.

Try it on its own, or pair it with a dish of General Tso's Chicken, Spicy Sushi Rolls, or your favorite Thai Curries.

This week's stop on Grauls Wine & Spirits New Product Odyssey visits a French Wine region steeped in history, unique in gastronomic culture, and mind-bendingly gorgeous - Alsace.
Founded in 1680 and rebuilt after the Sigolsheim area was devastated during WWII, Maison Pierre Sparr endures and thrives to produce world-class wines. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented at cool temperatures to preserve the fresh, bright fruit characteristics of the grapes.

Their Pinot Gris is in the classic Alsace style - full-bodied with aromas of fresh white peach, roasted hazelnut, and toast. The palate is generous and powerful, with a light sweetness to balance the finish.

This week's stop on Grauls Wine & Spirits' New Item Odyssey is a true historical gem.

Château Cantemerle can trace its winemaking history back to 1354! Classified a Fifth Growth (Grand Cru Classé) property in 1855, this Haut Médoc Château and its grounds are beautiful example of its time. After a rejuvenation starting in 1980, the 98 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot vines yield wonderful, age-worthy wines.

The 2020 shows the superb maturity of Cantemerle’s Cabernet Sauvignon is evident up front by its degree of concentration and complexity, the sign of a great Médoc wine. The bouquet expresses cherry, olive and to***co notes, as well as hints of oak that are still somewhat present. In the mouth, silky tannins launch a symphony of spicy, peppery, and fruity flavors upon the palate that are of great quality and generously supported by a long, full softness. The finish is lengthy and lively, neither limp nor harsh. A well-constructed balance is the foundation which supports a structure of freshness, elegance, persistence, and a perfectly controlled power.

After decanting and resting for an hour, this wine is a true example of the winemaker's expertise - proper storage will yield a wine worth aging for 15 years or more!

Grauls Wine & Spirits' new product odyssey rolls onward!

This time we visit California's Noah River winery and their wonderful Pinot Noir.

Vinified with premium grapes from Sonoma County and Central Coast vineyards, oak-aged 18 months in 20% new French oak, this wine is great - ruby in color, big, floral nose of dark cherry, fig & Asian spice. Secondary notes of blackberry, mint, orange pekoe tea & pencil shavings. Medium-bodied flavors of dark cherry cola, red raspberry & tea. Wonderful finish of red plums & baker's chocolate.
