Welcome to the , the last country in our Tour! We're kicking things off with , a region that spans across 14,000 hectares.

Although New York is the third largest wine producing region in the United States, it took awhile before viticulture was successful in the Empire State. Both Dutch and French settlers attempted to grow vines from Europe, but were unsuccessful as the vines died from diseases and the harsh winters. It wasn't until a hybrid of European vines and a native varietal were crossed that the grapes were able to withstand New York's cold continental climate. The main varietals found in New York are Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, while Vidal, Baco Noir, Blaufränkisch, and Seyval Blanc play a secondary role.

"El Impostor" was first produced when Juan decided to experiment with a particularly vigorous parcel of 20-year-old Cinsault vines. Unfined, unfiltered and absolutely delicious, El Impostor is a dry, tart, and tangy wine with a sour cherry note that is similar to a sour beer or a piquette.

Reptiliano is produced from 100% Muscat de Alexandria and fermented on skins with music for about 7 days. The wine is then finished in stainless steel and aged on the lees under a uniquely protective — and transformative — layer of flor for one year before bottling unfined, unfiltered and with no sulfur. The finished wine is, as Juan says, “strange, alien,” and a uniquely delicious orange wine that is both floral and savory.
