Sarah’s Sipper 🥰

Domaine du Petit Chaumont Gris de Gris 2023

I tried this rosé for the first time when I took a bottle home for an easy weekend sipper – and that it was! Run by sisters Brigiette and Nathalie, the Domain is located at the heart of the Camargue, a beautiful area famous for its wild horses and flamingos. This rosé is equally as stunning, light in colour and light in alcohol. It’s a blend of 60% Grenache Gris and 40% Cinsault – these come together to give cherries, strawberries, peach and fennel.
A short period of ageing in concrete vats imparts a freshness to this wine. This really is an easy sipper all on its own, but if the weather is nice on Easter Sunday – enjoy it with canapés!

After Tom had a successful visit to a special tasting hosted by Raventós i Blanc themselves, their vintage Blanc de Blancs has made it to our shelves!
All we can say is, is this traditional method sparkling is changing the Spanish sparkling game 😍

🍾 Blanc de Blancs 2022
📍Catalonia
🍇 Xare-lo, Macabeo, Parellada, Malvasia de Sitges
Made using the traditional method with 2 years’ lees ageing.
The result is an elegant, creamy expression that ‘feels’ like a top Champagne but with freshness and a unique florality. The nose is orange blossom, apple and greengage with a touch of toast, with vibrant acidity and peach harmonising perfectly on the palate.

🍷Trinity Hill ‘The Trinity’ Red Blend 2021
Trinity Hill’s ‘The Trinity’ Red Blend is a classic Hawke’s Bay take on a Bordeaux blend: Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (plus a bit of Petit Verdot and Syrah, which they’ve conveniently ignored when naming the blend!). The gravelly soils here are similar to those in the left bank of Bordeaux, absorbing heat during the daytime to keep the grapes ripening gradually during the otherwise cool evenings. This has seen a short maturation in old oak barrels, just to soften the tannins without overpowering the fruit character. It’s beautifully soft and supple with blackberry, plum, black olive and a lovely violet aroma from the Cabernet Franc, but rich and peppery on the palate. If, like me, you’re having lamb with your Easter Sunday roast then I can’t think of a better partner than this Kiwi red!

It's Malbec Day - and what a grape to celebrate 🍇

Although originating in France, Argentina's expressions are more often found on the shelves of shops everywhere - but we can't forget the classic French, and we're here to celebrate both 🍷

Causse du Theron Malbec
📍Cahors, France
The French style tends so be less fruit-forward, more rustic and a touch lighter than its Argentine counterpart.
🍷Black currants, kirsch, leather and spice. The palate is dry with a nice bit of acidity.

Bodega Tapiz 'Black Tears' Malbec
📍Mendoza, Argentina
A bigger, fruitier and oakier (that's a word) style!
🍷Intense black fruits, coconut, dark plum, vanilla, chocolate and a touch of menthol. The palate is super plush and full-bodied.

🐰Both wines are perfect for Easter Sunday too - especially if the weather is nice and the lamb makes it on the barbecue!
