Scaia 2023 Rosato • Veneto, Italy • Reg $15.99 | Mixed Case $12.79

100% Rondinella. Really fun nose = herbs, raspberries. Flavors of white peach, unripe nectarine. Then red fruit, raspberries, dark cherries. Fresh and fun, but luscious and easy drinking. Great acidity on the finish.

Absolutely terrific rosé, especially for the price.

Wine Travel to Touraine AOC in the Middle Loire!

A good portion of the famous chateaux – nearly 300 of them, ranging from 10th century fortifications to royal castles built 500 years later – are around the town of Tours. Chateau Villandry pictured.

Touraine AOC is the heart of the chateaux drive, and it’s also the heart of delicious, everyday Sauvignon Blanc. Known for its citrus fruit, grassy notes and bright acidity, these wines are made for food: chèvre (acidic goat cheeses), asparagus, seafood of all sorts, rotisserie chicken, and more.

Touraine also produces a bright, red-fruited Gamay (and some other varietals as well), but in much lower quantities than its Sauvignon. Pictured are the vineyards of Thierry Delaunay as well as his delicious rosé!

July Top Picks • Saturday, July 5 (12-3pm)

Every month Portalis owner Jens Strecker selects his favorite wines for the season, and on the first Saturday of the month, we taste a selection of those wines.

For July, we’ll taste: a white Bordeaux blend from Graves, a Vermentino from Tuscany, a Txakolina Rosé from Spain’s Basque Country, a Côtes du Rhône Villages red blend from Valréas, and a Merlot-Malbec blend from France’s Cahors region.

Cost is $15. (Fee waived with the purchase of any wine in the shop.)

Just In.... Big Salt Orange Wine!

O**m 2024 Big Salt Orange • Umpqua Valley, Oregon • Reg $23.99 | Mixed Case $19.19

Pinot Gris/Gewürztraminer. Very aromatic. Spicy, herbal (ginger!) nose. Flavors of blood orange, mandarin, ginger, with turmeric notes. Again, spicy, earthy notes on the palate. (The grapes are grown in basaltic & volcanic soils.)

Some salinity on the finish. Makes you want more! Get some for July 4th!

Mas des Bressades 2023 Costières de Nîmes Blanc • Southern Rhône, France • Reg $18.99 | Mixed Case $15.19

Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier. Nose = white peach, floral notes & almonds. Flavors add in dried apricots, note of pears, with citrus on the finish. (The Marsanne is big!!) Creamy texture. Fuller-bodied. Absolutely great wine. Enjoyed with Ling-cod over saffron rice with fresh garlic spears & grilled Turkish olives.

100% Lagrein, a grape native to vineyards around the Dolomite Mountains. Violet perfume on the nose with some earth & sand. Flavors of black raspberries, blackberries, blueberries with spicy notes. Peppery, spicy, earthy finish. Medium-bodied. Good acid. Not super dry. Great summer red. Screaming for grilled sausages!
