The new Pen Name dropped today! Another amazing lager from them, here are some words from Mat Waddell describing this incredible beer:
It starts with a nearly forgotten heritage barley variety descended from historic Moravian Hana landrace grain, bred outside Vienna around the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and brought back into production by our friends at Sugar Creek Malt. The malt itself is incredibly expressive — fresh bread, straw, dough, light honey, and unlike anything else we’ve brewed with.
To honor that grain, we brewed Hana Bier using a full triple decoction mash, followed by a long boil and cold fermentation. Unfiltered, raw.
The final beer is deeply grain-driven but still endlessly drinkable: layered malt character, soft noble bitterness, a crisp finish, and only 4.5% ABV. The kind of lager built for long conversations, another round, and then another after that.
