The Gangster Barrel Has Landed.

THOMAS PHARMACY: HAMM’S RANSOM NOTE

Before Thomas Liquors, it was Thomas Pharmacy—and in 1933, it became part of one of St. Paul’s most infamous kidnappings. Fred Goetz, a known gangster with ties to Dillinger and the Barker–Karpis gang, walked through our doors and dropped off a ransom note for William Hamm Jr., heir to Hamm’s Brewing.

Ninety years later, we’re honoring that wild piece of local history the best way we know how: with a barrel worth remembering.
