Ch*****ne's earliest harvest ever recorded has ignited the question for producers and bubbly fans alike. Historic spring frosts were followed by unusually early flowering, drought, and five heatwaves during the summer months. High heat and drought produced grapes with exceptionally high sugar levels, prompting an unorthodox response from the regional regulatory body: *****ne producers were temporarily permitted to exceed the standard 13% alcohol limit to 15% for the 2026 vintage.

Despite high ripeness levels, grape musts displayed notable freshness, concentration, fruit intensity, and elegance, and the Comité Ch*****ne has compared the potential of 2026 with acclaimed historic vintages like 1921, 1947 and 1959.

Master Sommelier Mark Guillaudeu took 9th place out of a 66-strong international cohort, placing him among the highest-performing, world-class sommeliers worldwide. 🍷

The final of the ASI - Association de la Sommellerie Internationale Best Sommelier of the World 2026 took place in Lisbon on October 16th, with Nikolai Haram Svorte of Norway winning the crown. The American contestant also shone brightly, earning one of just 20 spots in the semifinals. To advance, contestants faced an advanced written exam in a second language, rapid-fire blind tastings, the correction of a “faulty” w**e list, and a practical service segment with demanding restaurant guests and intricate decanting tasks.
