To our Valor familia,
Today is Father’s Day, and I want to tell you about the man behind our hummingbird.
My dad. We lost him suddenly in 2018. In the days after, when it felt almost impossible to put one foot in front of the other, a hummingbird appeared in the middle of winter and would not leave my side.
In Mexican folklore, the hummingbird is sacred, believed to carry the thoughts of one person to another. When you see one, it means someone, somewhere, is thinking of you fondly.
My father’s love and appreciation for Mexico ran deep. So much of my childhood was spent with him in La Paz, and that love is alive in everything Valor is.
When we began building this brand, I shared my dad’s story with our art director, Nick Oliver Ronceros. What came next was one of the most beautiful conversations, and I want to thank Nick for giving my father’s story wings in the most meaningful way.
Almost three years into Valor, I just want to say thank you. To my dad, for guiding me still, from wherever he is. To Nick, for honoring him so beautifully. And to all of you, for being part of this.
