Price: $29.99
W**emaker: Raphaël Bartucci
Grape Varietal: Gamay, Poulsard, Chardonnay
Region: Bugey, France
Why we love this w**e: “I’m excited to have cooler nights, but also just bummed its already September. I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer just yet while temperatures are still warm and comfortable so we’re throwing in a fun bubbly rosé this week. The sparkling w**es out of Bugey, France (Boo-Zhay? pronounced like bougie?) lately have been very tasty and until recently we haven’t seen many w**es from this region. These w**e gems are underrated so I am putting this one in the spotlight. A juicy, aromatic, and berry forward sparkling rosé to enjoy this Labor Day weekend. If you’re having a salty snack (or maybe you or someone is just having a salty day because of the change in season, and you would like to have at least one more weekend on the beach!) pair it with this Bugey w**e to sweeten things up. It’s only 7% alcohol so let’s crush it! Drink responsibly. Cheers!” – Trevor
Viticulture: Organic
Vinification/Elevage: Made with 80% Gamay, 15% Poulsard, and 5% Chardonnay. Fermented in stainless steel tanks. The unfinished w**e is bottled and continues fermenting in the bottle to achieve its carbonation (Methode ancestrale). The bottles sit upright for 3 months. Disgorged with not added sulfites.
Tasting profile: A semi-sweet bubbly rosé w**e with notes of fresh strawberries and sweet cranberries with a little citrus on the finish.
About the w**ery: Raphaël Bartucci is a self-taught w**emaker who founded his w**ery in 1983 after leaving his career as an electrician. His parents fled fascist Italy in the 1950s and raised him in eastern France where he developed an interest in farming. He collects fossils from his vineyards and displays them in the tasting room below his house! He has been certified organic since 1997.
