Tasting Today - Wines of Piedmont - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we will be pouring wines from one of our favorite regions, Piedmont. This northern Italian region is home to the prestigious Barolo and Barbaresco wines, but there are tons of fantastic wines at friendlier prices that totally over deliver in complexity and quality. Beautifully “Old World” with power and finesse, these wines aren’t to be missed.

We’ll begin the tasting with our one white of the day made from the Arneis grape. Seen almost exclusively in Piedmont, this grape makes wines that are crisp and dry but with a great mouthfeel and wonderful stone fruit flavors. From there we have a pair of Barberas with the first presenting more earthy and rustic and the second offering elegance and depth. After that we have a Nebbiolo that celebrates the grape varieties dual nature of power and delicacy. Finally we’ll finish things off with a Piedmont inspired blend from California that shows how the Barbera and Nebbiolo grapes present when grown in a warmer, “New World” region. It’s a cool juxtaposition and point of reference. This should be a fun one.

We hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

Flori Langhe Arneis 2024
Mauro Molino Barbera d’Alba 2024
Trediberri Barbera d’Alba 2024
Forte Masso Langhe Nebbiolo 2022
Idlewild “The Bird” Red Blend 2021

Tasting Today - Warm Weather Wines - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today’s beautiful weather is just in time for this lineup of wines geared towards warm, sunny days and food cooked on the grill. We have some crisp, dry French whites and a couple bold Spanish reds for you to enjoy. These wines offer great value and are perfect for the weeks and months ahead.

We’ll begin in the Loire Valley of France with a Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. These two wines are bright and lively with myriad of citrus and stone fruit flavors. From there we move to the south of France for a new white wine from AIX. This iconic rosé producer started making a white wine a year ago and it is drinking beautifully. For reds we’ll head to Campo de Borjo in Spain with a rich, oak-aged Tempranillo followed by a dark-fruited, sultry Garnacha. These are some fantastic wines at great prices that we are excited to share with you.

I hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

Topette Sauvignon Blanc 2024
Topette Chenin Blanc 2024
AIX Provence Blanc 2024

Tasting Today - GC Wines from Willamette Valley - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we are featuring wines from the Willamette Valley, one of my favorite wine regions. Specifically we’ll be tasting wines from GC Wines and they do a great job of showcasing the purity of fruit, finesse and complexity that make the wines of this region so enjoyable.

We’ll start off with a trio of whites as we move from Melon de Bourgogne to Pinot Blanc and then a Chardonnay. The Melon sets the tone with bright stone fruit flavors that make your mouth water. The Pinot Blanc builds in body while maintaining acidity that supports its rich texture. The Chardonnay is clean and energetic with many layers of flavor to unfold. For reds there is a Pinot Noir and a Pinot Noir/Gamay blend. They are cool to compare and contrast, with the Pinot Noir exhibiting bright red berry fruit and baking spices and the blend adding a bit of a crunchy, juicy twist to the mix. These are some really well made wines that will be a lot of fun to taste through..

I hope to see you this afternoon.

GC Wines Pinot Blanc 2022
GC Wines Chardonnay 2023

Tasting Today - Caruso & Minini of Sicily - 1:00 - 7:00pm

This week we’re making a stop in Sicily with a lineup of wines from Caruso & Minini. We’ll be tasting wines made from some of the unique grapes from the island like Catarratto, Frappato, Nero d’Avola and Perricone. This is an exciting bunch that offer the brightness and lift of Mediterranean island wine.

We’ll begin things with a white wine made from Catarrattove that, while dry, has fantastic texture and depth. From there we have a rosé and a.red based on the Frappato grape. The rosé is bright and lively with wonderful red berry fruit and the red is exuberant and punchy. Next is a duo of Nero d’avila, with the first exhibiting a more energetic acidity and the second offering more body and richer fruit. Finally we’ll finish things off with a Perricone, a grape unique to the island that offers a myriad of dark and red fruit flavors all wound together.

We hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

Caruso & Minini Catarratto 2024
Caruso & Minini Frappo Rosé 2025
Caruso & Minini Frappello 2023

Tasting Today - Primitivo & Zinfandel - 1:00 - 7:00pm

This week I noticed that the Zinfandel shelf at the shop had a few empty spots so I spent the week looking for some new wines to fill the gaps. The result is today’s tasting where we’ll compare Italy’s Zinfandel (Primitivo) with a couple Zins from the Sierra Foothills of California. Come have a good time with some big reds.

We’ll begin things with three Primitivos from Puglia in southern Italy (where just about all the Primitivo in the country is grown). They start off ripe, easy and delicious then add a bit more old world rusticity as we move through the trio. We’ll follow that with the two Sierra Foothills Zins from Sobon Estate. These offer a noticeable shift with dense dark fruit flavors and intense concentration. It is a great lineup of wines today and a really fun illustration of how terroir and climate play a huge role in the final product.

I hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

San Marzano Primitivo 2022
Petraio Primitivo 2022
Lirica Primitivo di Manduria 2022
Sobon Estate Rocky Top Zinfandel 2022
Sobon Estate Fiddletown Zinfandel 2023

Tasting Today - Sancerre & Rose - 1:00 - 7:00 pm

It is shaping up to be a beautiful day today. Hopefully this is a harbinger of things to come as we work further into spring. To celebrate we’ll be pouring Sancerre and rosé at today’s tasting. These are wines that can and should be enjoyed year round, but there is no denying their sparkle when the weather is warm and sunny.

We’ll begin today with two Sancerres that are great ambassadors of the region. They are both crisp and lively but still expressive on the palate. The first Sancerre leans a bit more into the mineral side of things while the second has a bigger pop of stone fruit. Our three rosés begin with a Gamay/Pinot Nor blend from the foothills of the Alps that is electric and brimming with red berry fruit and mouth-watering tart undertones. Next is the little rosé that could. We did a huge buy-in on Mary Taylor’s Saint-Pourcain Gamay rosé a couple years ago and have been happily working through it ever since. Finally, we’ll cap things off with another Mary Taylor rosé made from Cabernet and Cabernet Franc that offers a darker color and playful texture. This lineup will get you in the mood for warm spring and summer days to come.

I hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

Roland Tissier et Fils Sancerre 2024
Domaine La Croix Saint-Laurene Sancerre 2025
Les Rocailles Savoie Rosé 2025
Mary Taylor Saint-Pourcain Rosé 2021
Mary Taylor Agenais Rosé 2025

Tasting Today - Wines of Spain - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we have some electric whites and rosé from northern Spain’s, Rias Baixas and Getariako Txakolina, paired with a couple beautiful reds from the island of Malloraca. The whole lineup exhibits great intensity and complexity. They are fantastic examples of the regional terroir from which they hail.

On the chilled side of things we have two Txakoli wines, a piercing slightly effervescent white and an absolutely stunning rosé that also has a bit of petulance. From Rias Baixas we have an Albarino that is both generous on the fruit and lively and dry on the palate. The two reds from Mallorca are both based on the indigenous grape variety Manto Negro. They make a fun side-by-side comparison, each showing varietal and regional similarities while offering their own unique personality.

These wines are a cool look at Spain from another angle.
I hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

Txakoli Primo Zarautz 2024
Luz de Faro Albarino 2024
Ameztoi Txakolina Rosé 2025
Mesquida Mora Sincronia Negre 2023
Ca’n Verdura Negre 2023

Tasting Today - 1:00 - 7:00pm - Cabernet Franc & Friends

I’ve been looking for a few new Cabernet Francs to put on the shelf, so today we’ll be pouring three new arrivals of that grape variety. It’s also time to start looking to the spring so we threw in a new 2025 rosé and a beautiful lighter red made from a grape called Criolla. It’s a homage to the back and forth weather we’ve seen this week.

The rosé is one of the first 2025s to hit our shelves. It is crisp and lively with tons of bright berry fruit. The Criolla is a lighter colored red that you could chill a bit if you’re so inclined, but I like to drink it room temperature to get all the warmth and spice that surrounds the red fruit profile. The Matthiason Cabernet Franc is a single vineyard wine from Napa Valley that is packed with complexity and nuance. The La Varenne Chinon offers more of the bell pepper and herbal spice of the grape variety but in all the best ways. The Penley Cabernet Franc is ripe, bold and delicious. The last three wines are unmistakably Cabernet Franc but, hailing from California, France and Australia, offer three unique looks at the varietal.

They are five great wines for you to try. I hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

Le Vignerons de Florensac Cotes de Thau Rosé 2025
Le Petit Voyage Criolla 2023
Matthiasson Cabernet Franc Phoenix Vineyard 2020
La Varenne Chinon Tradition 2023
Penley Cabernet Franc 2024

Tasting Today - Muscadet & Beaujolais - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we are looking to the future with a tasting geared towards the spring. We’ll be pouring Muscadet and Beaujolais, regions that are wonderful to enjoy any time of year, but have a particular shine as things are just beginning to warm in the spring.

Sur Lie aging plays a big role in Muscadet. This is a period of time where the pulp from the grapes is allowed to soak in the pressed grape juice. This process creates richness and texture in the wine. Today we will start with three Muscadet. The first has no Sur Lei aging and is the most lively and crisp. The next two incorporate Sur Lie aging and move from the 2024 to 2022 vintage, so bottle age also comes into play. It’s a lot of fun to see the similarities and difference as you taste across them.

The reds are all from Beaujolais. These wines made from the Gamay grape run from light and fruity to brooding and complex. We’ll start with a Beaujolais Villages then move on to the more specific crus of Brouilly and Fleurie. This is another great trio of wines to compare and contrast.

This will be a fun one. I hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

La Forcine Muscadet 2023
Mary Taylor Muscadet 2024
Domaine l’Epinay Muscadet 2022
Domaine du Pere Jean Beaujolais Villages 2023
Domaine Les Roches Bleues “La Croquante” Brouilly 2023
Arnaud Combier Fleurie 2024

Tasting Today - Spanish Wines - 1:00 - 7:00pm

We’re heading to Spain today with stops in the often familiar region of Rioja and the less familiar regions of Rias Baixas, Priorat and the Canary Islands. I love the how Spain can act as a bridge between New and Old World wines, offering a bit more ripeness but still maintaining finesse and earthiness. These wines don’t disappoint on that front.

We begin in the Canary islands with a white wine that is lifted and lively with fantastic aromatics, then move to Rias Baixas for an Albariño that is full of richness and texture. For reds we start in Rioja with a 100% Graciano that has alluring warm space notes, then move to a Gran Reserva from 2013 that is still powerful but has had time for all it’s elements to come together seamlessly. We’ll finish things off in Priorat with a brooding, dark-fruited wine that begs for cured meats and flavorful cheeses. This is a tasting full of wines that are generous enough to enjoy without too much thought, but if you’re ready to dig into them there are lots of layers and nuance to discover. I hope to see you this afternoon.

Today’s Lineup:

Vinatigo Listan Blanco de Canarias 2024
Morgadio Albariño Rias Baixas 2021
Berceo Rioja Graciano 2020
Bordon Rioja Gran Reserva 2013
Pissarres Priorat 2022
