Tasting Today - New Arrivals & Deals - 1:00 - 7:00pm

We had an opportunity this week to bring in a bunch of w**e from a supplier that will no longer be available in the state. I was already working with most of these w**es and was happy to grab a bunch at a great discount to pass along to you. The Pinot Noir is the only one that is totally new to me and I’m excited to try it with you.

Today we have two French w**es that come in 1 liter bottles. The La Belle Blanc and Rouge are w**es that are meant to be easily enjoyable for any situation. The Blanc is a crisp and dry Sauvignon Blanc with playful citrus notes and the Rouge is a Cabernet based blend with an Old World sensibility. Both totally over deliver at these great sale prices. The Cinghiale Americano w**es are unmistakably California but with fantastic finesse and brightness. The Chardonnay is rich but clean and lively while the Cabernet has herbal and spice nuances that lift the ripe red berry fruit. The William Downie Pinot Noir hails from Gippsland Australia. Only 100 cases of this w**e was produced and we got one of them. It is supposed to be a beautiful w**e, but we’ll be the judge of that together today.

Tasting Today - Julia in Tuscany - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we will amble through central Italy with w**es from Tuscany, Abruzzo and Lazio. These are some pretty fun and serious w**es we’re pouring for you today. The comparison of three Montepulcianos is really cool and the Brunello is a treat.

We will begin with our only white of the day, a Pecorino that is full of flavor but light and lively on the palate. Diving into the reds there is a trio of Montpulciano, starting with a bright and energetic 1 Liter bottle, then moving to something bolder but with a bigger mid-palate of red fruit and finishing with a wonderfully polished and complex example of the varietal. We’ll finish in Tuscany with a Rosso the is rustic in all the good ways and a
Brunello that shows power and grace. This is a good one.

Tasting Today - Bordeaux and Southern France - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we will reside mostly in France with a quick start in Switzerland. The Swiss w**es are hard to come by and we don’t have a lot of Bandol rosé in the state which we will feature second. From there it is some great reds from Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley.

Our Swiss white is a good example of the crisp, dry w**es of the region with a bit more weight on the palate. The Bandol rose offers a generous array of red fruits in a dry lively package. The Sablet from Côtes du Rhône is full and rich while our two Bordeaux gain structure and fantastic rusticity. These are some really well made w**es that I’m excited to share with you today.

Tasting Today - 1:00 - 7:00pm - Chilean W**es

We will reside mainly in Chile today with a quick detour to Australia for a fun new arrival. The Chilean w**es have the depth, boldness and polish that can combine in the w**es of this mountain protected country where the vine destroying Phylloxera pest has largely been avoided.

We will start off with a lively, dry Sauvignon Blanc with herbal nuances and rich stone fruit flavors. Next is our quick stop in Australia for a playful light-bodied Shiraz and Pinot Noir blend that loves a bit of a chill. Then we’re back to Chile with a super great value in Pinot Noir that is light in body but packed full of flavor. We’ll finish of with a pair of heavier reds, first a delicious Carmenere that delivers all the richness and spice the grape variety and w**e region are known for in a wonderfully polished package, then a structured, chewy Cabernet that begs for a bite of protein with each sip.

Tasting Today - New World W**es - 1:00 - 7:00pm

We had an Old World focus at our last tasting, so today we are switching gears to the New World with w**es from California, South Africa and Australia. The New World regions, encompassing the Americas and the southern hemisphere, tend to be warmer and the w**es exhibit more ripeness and bolder primary flavors. Today’s w**es embrace that side of things while maintaining balance and intrigue.

We will begin with a ch*****ne style sparkler from California that has great bubbles and a rich, creamy texture. Our two whites are from South Africa, beginning with a Chenin Blanc that has racy acidity running through a generous palate of white fleshy stone fruit, then moving on to a Chardonnay with a beautifully lifted and lively mouthfeel and tropical fruit flavors. For reds we have a Grenache from Australia that is dark fruited with smoky undertones and a dense, full-bodied Old Vine Zinfandel from California that bursts with bright red berry flavors.

Tasting Today - Old World W**es - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we have a fun mix of w**es from across Europe (plus one quick pit stop in Uruguay...). There are a couple favorites of mine that aren’t going to be carried in Vermont anymore, so I scooped up what I could, and some new w**es for the shelves.

We will begin with a pair of white w**es from Hungary and Austria. Furmint is a common white grape in Hungary and well be pouring a dry expression with lively acidity (it is also used for their famous dessert w**es). The Austrian white is, of course, Gurner Veltliner, king of the Austrian white grape varieties. Moving to reds we have a Tuscan Sangiovese from Capanna, one of my favorite central Italian producers, followed by a Tannat from Uruguay that I’ve loved and carried for a while, but we can now offer at almost $10 off its original price. We’ll end things in Spain with a Ribera del Duero that is rich and generous, then a Rioja Reserva that is deliciously old-school with 8 years of barrel and bottle aging.

Tasting Today - Italy and an Albatiño - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today’s tasting is going to focus on some new Italian arrivals that we brought in this week, but I also had to sneak in a fantastic Albariño that is new to us as well. The two Italian whites hail from the northern and southern reaches of Italy, while the two reds are right in the heart of Tuscany. We have some pretty exciting w**es for you today.

First off we’ll pour the Spanish Albariño. I’ve been looking for one to replace a couple that have been out of stock and this blew my socks off. It is racy but rich, dry but full-of-fruit, truly a w**e with balance and wonderful tension. From there it’s all Italy with and elegant, complex Arneis from Piedmont and a wild, bursting-with-aromatics-and-flavor Verdeca from Puglia. Transitioning to reds we have two Tuscan w**es from the fantastic 2021 vintage. First is a Chianti Classico that is delightfully rustic with brambly red berry fruit and spice notes. That is followed by a brooding Brunello di Montalcino that is a steal at just $39.99...well a steal for Brunello di Montalcino anyway. These are some pretty great w**es we have for you today.

Tasting Today - Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we are pouring Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, hence the title “Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc”....The two Sauvignon Blancs offer a fun comparison of New Zealand and California, while the Cabernets compare and contrast California with Australia. I’ve also chosen w**es with a good bit of bottle aging for today’s tasting to add a bit of intrigue.

We will begin with a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand that is lively with citrus notes but hails from Hawkes Bay in the north island as opposed to the more commonly seen Marlborough w**es, giving it a unique perspective. This is followed by a Sauvignon Blanc from Edna Valley that has some fun jalapeño notes on the nose and clean, stone fruit flavors. For Cabernet we start in Australia, first with an easy, inexpensive red from South Australia, then a bolder more intricate w**e from Australia’s renowned Margaret River in Western Australia. These are followed by two Cabernets from Happy Canyon, a warmer, dry area of Santa Barbara known for their rich and concentrated Cabernets. These w**es are both from the 2016 vintage and the ten years of barrel and bottle aging have brought them to a beautiful place of harmony and complexity.

Tasting Today - Big New Deals - 1:00 - 7:00pm

This week we bought-in on a number of w**es for our case stacks. Among them were some pretty fantastic deals that we’re excited to share with you at today’s tasting. The w**es hail from California, Oregon, France and Spain. There is a good bit of variety but there is one common thread, each one is showing a fantastic discount.

We will begin with a Spanish Garnacha Blanca the has a rich palate of stone fruits and a finish that lingers long. Next is a Willamette Valley Chardonnay that is full-bodied with a kiss of toasty oak, ripe tropical fruit flavors and a clean, racy finish. For reds we’ll start with a lighter French Merlot with earthy, mushroomy nuances and bright red berry fruit flavors. Next we head to California for a dense, dark fruited Syrah from Paso Robles before finishing things off with a pricy, but less pricy today, Napa Valley Cabernet. This will be a fun one.

Tasting Today - Central Coast W**es - 1:00 - 7:00pm

Today we’ll be heading to the Central Coast of California. I recently started working with Joyce Vineyards and have been impressed by their ability to produce lively, balanced w**es that still delivery the ripeness of California. Today we will be featuring some of their w**es along with a few other like-minded producers.

We will begin today with two w**es from Arroyo Seco. Joyce Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc and Albarino are two piercing, vivid whites. The Sauvignon Blanc has some of the fun, exotic flavor profiles the grape variety can express and the Albarino is racy with a bit of salinity. Next is a Paso Robles Sauvignon Blanc that offers a richer, more fruit-forward flavors profile, followed by a Santa Barbara Chardonnay that totally over delivers at its modest price point. For reds we’ll first head back to Arroyo Secco for a red berry and spice explosion called Joyce Pinot Noir. Then we’ll finish things off back in Paso Robles with a dark-fruited Cabernet that shows fantastic balance and length.
