Over 100 years of history, sealed in a bottle. 🥃

Some bottles are rare. Others are extraordinary pieces of spirits history. This bottle is both of those rolled into one and one of the rarest bottles we have had through our doors.

Today we’re showcasing a remarkable piece of Chartreuse history: an incredibly well-preserved bottle of Pères Chartreux Tarragona, believed to date from 1904–1930.

Following the expulsion of the Carthusian monks from France in the early 1900s, production of their legendary herbal liqueur moved to Tarragona, Spain, beginning one of the most fascinating chapters in Chartreuse history.

What makes this particular bottle so special?

🔸 Original Pères Chartreux Tarragona label, featuring the historic La Unión Agrícola production designation.

🔸 Original CAR insignia, appearing on both the shoulder and the top of the cork.

🔸 Remarkably preserved wax closure, with the thick, aged wax characteristic of early Tarragona bottlings.

🔸 Period green glass bottle, featuring a deeply recessed base and early-style construction.

Together, these details suggest a bottle produced during the first several decades of Chartreuse production in Spain, potentially making it nearly 120 years old.

For collectors of historic spirits, bottles like this represent far more than what’s inside the glass. They’re tangible connections to the people, craftsmanship, and history that shaped some of the world’s most iconic spirits.
