Memorial Day weekend is almost here, which means one thing in DC: the grills are coming out. Backyards, rooftops, the parks along the Potomac — by Monday afternoon, half the city smells like charcoal and burgers.

Here’s what I really want this Memorial Day: I want sake to be a normal option. Not the weird thing your friend brought. Not the bottle nobody knows what to do with. Just — one of the things in the cooler. One of the choices on the table.

That’s how categories grow. One BBQ at a time. One curious friend at a time. One cup sake passed across the table.

So if you’re hosting this weekend, or showing up to someone else’s grill, bring a bottle or two. Try the sake-highball. Try the cup. See what happens when you put sake next to a hot dog!

And then — please — tell me how it went. Message us on Instagram, or tag us at your gathering. You know how I aways want to hear your sake-experiences!

Sake at your BBQ — yes,

really.
Memorial Day weekend is almost here, and the grills are coming out.
Our founder Reiko just published a new blog post with a simple but compelling idea: sake
belongs in that cooler.

She’s picked two bottles to bring to her own gathering this weekend — and shares
exactly how she plans to drink them. Head over to the blog to find out what’s in
her bag.

——WHAT’S IN THE POST——

🍶 Two specific sake picks built for the grill — and why they work
🍶 How to make a sake highball that holds up next to smoked brisket
🍶 The cup sake cooler trick that starts conversations

Sparkling Sakes for Mother's Day — and Why They Start Conversations

Last Mother's Day, a customer came back to tell me she'd brought Mio to her mom's brunch and her mom — who'd been "off sake forever" since a bad college experience — had two glasses and asked where to buy more.

That's the thing with sparkling sake. It rewrites the story. It gets people who thought they didn't like sake to discover they actually do — they just needed a nice guidance.

If you've got a mom in your life who fits that description, this might be the year… wink wink

Today I'm sharing four sparkling sakes I'd happily put on any Mother's Day brunch table — at three different price points, for three different kinds of celebrations.

Whatever you pour this Sunday, I hope it leads to a real moment with someone who matters.

Kanpai to the moms!

🌸🍶 Now… THAT was Spring Kanpai! 🌸🍶
To everyone who joined our 4th Annual Spring Sake Festival—THANK YOU!!! Truly. 270+ of you showed up, sipped, explored, kanpai’ed, and made this spring evening unforgettable.

Seeing so many familiar faces—and meeting so many new sake fans—meant so much. My heart is FULL. Thank you for bringing your friends to share this experience… this is exactly how this community grows, little by little.

From day one of DC Sake cō, I dreamed of bringing the spirit of hanami to DC—a moment where spring feels like:
“Let’s enjoy sake… because it’s spring!”

I think we’re getting closer 🌸🍶

I hope you discovered something new, learned a thing or two, and found a sake you loved (or three 😉)….. and If you did, don’t let that moment end here—keep enjoying sake at home, too!!!

Kanpai & Arigato!

A heartfelt thank you from our Spring Sake Festival VIP Session 🍶🌸

With so many moving parts, VIP session wouldn’t have come together without an incredible group of people we want to recognize properly.

To Timothy Sullivan — my sake sensei — thank you for sharing your deep knowledge that could easily fly over everyone’s heads, but never does with you. You have a gift for making the complex feel approachable, entertaining, and genuinely fun. Our guests didn’t just learn about sake — they were drawn into your story. Even as sake professionals, we have so much to learn from you. Thank you also for introducing Hakkaisan and Brooklyn Kura — sharing not just the sake, but the stories behind each, and their amazing US-Japan collaboration. ( )

To our amazing VIP guests 🩵— thank you for joining with curiosity, excitement, and open hearts. VIP tickets always sell out before early bird ends, and this time was no different. Your interest is the reason we pour so much into these sessions. 🙏

To Chef Jean Paul Poggi and the culinary team ( )— the course was absolutely delicious, and guests could not stop talking about the beef-brisket. The pairings elevated every pour and opened eyes to enjoying sake with non-Japanese cuisine!

To Ferit — thank you for the special spring-themed cocktail using Ohoro Gin (of Hakkaisan). 🍸 A beautiful, refreshing surprise.

To Louie Anne of , Scott Moven of , and Taisei Suzuki — thank you for keeping the session running smoothly from start to finish. The behind-the-scenes work is what made everything look effortless.

Sessions like these take a village, and this was one heck of a village. 🍶
Thank you!!!!!
