Thirsty Thursday: Knights Valley in Shining Armor!

Greg Norman Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Knights Valley AVA, Sonoma, California

Though known for his successful golf career, Greg Norman has been in the world of w**e for quite some time—three decades to be exact. Since 1996, his w**ery has been vinifying quality w**es in both California and Australia. Today’s featured w**e comes from the prestigious Knights Valley AVA in Sonoma County. Knights Valley is in northern Sonoma and covers several miles of mountainous countryside. It links the Russian River Valley and the broader Sonoma Valley with the northernmost points of Napa Valley. The most popular and renowned grape from the region is Cabernet Sauvignon. The style of Cab here combines Napa’s richness with the structure and rusticity of Sonoma.

Greg Norman’s Knights Valley Cabernet is dry, medium-bodied and concentrated with soft tannins. It combines notes of black currant, blackberry, cassis, black tea, to***co, with a touch of vanilla.

👻Happy Halloween!👻

The spirits are restless and in want of a party! To appease them, we are releasing our very own single barrel from Dark Arts Wh***ey House out of Lexington, Kentucky. They specialize in blending and finishing of different whiskeys to find new depth and character that would otherwise be lost. The CEO of Dark Arts, David Peet, will be attending to pour samples of not only our pick, but of other limited releases.

Our pick is an 8.5 year bourbon from Kentucky bottled at 115PF and finished in French Oak with a brown sugar toast. Lovers of Penelope will be familiar with the marshmallow and crème brûlée toasts of American Oak barrels, but this is a brand new finishing style you won’t find anywhere else!

This is going to be a boo-zy, spirit-filled party, so dress the part! Wear a costume to the event and you can enter for a chance to win a free bottle of their flagship Mizunara-finished bourbon.

Thirsty Thursday: Georgia on My Mind

Fermenting grapes for w**e is a custom that’s been practiced in Georgia from as early as 6,000 BC. In 2017, archaeologists discovered evidence of w**emaking in a Neolithic settlement in the country’s southeast, lending credence to what many Georgians already believed to be true: that their country is the global cradle of w**e. Teliani Valley was founded relatively recently in Georgia’s long history of w**emaking, in 1997, but their authentic w**emaking is held up by thousands of years of tradition. They have worked to preserve some of Georgia’s 500 native varieties from going extinct, including the white grape Tsolikouri (prounounced so-lee-core-ee) from which our featured w**e today is made.

This native Georgian varietal is from a small, mountainous area with limestone soils that impart a gorgeous minerality to this w**e. In addition, enjoy notes of green apple, key lime, pear, peach, and salinity. It’s very crisp, but it is on the fuller side, almost like an unoaked Chardonnay. Pair with salmon, shrimp, potato and leek soup, or traditional Georgian dishes like khachapuri (warm leavened bread filled with melted cheese and egg) and khinkali (Georgian dumplings).

This w**e offers the perfect opportunity to explore an ancient (yet new to some!) region at a steal of a price.

New b**rs are here!

Today we welcome two new breweries and start to usher in a new seasonality to the coolers. The frontrunner of the holiday season, Great Lakes Christmas Ale has arrived along with a a brand new variety pack from Cleveland’s most recognizable brewery. Jack’s Abbey is back with their Oktoberfest Marzen and a Pumpkin b**r just under the wire of fall b**rs, while Urban Chestnut debuts their Festbier alongside a Hefeweizen and Zwickel. Colorado’s Outer Range drops by for the first time, bringing a few highly regarded hazy options, and Surly proves there aren’t any rules about needing to make citra hazy. Stop by and see what else is new!

An old favorite and a new...

Founded in 1932, Produttori di Manduria is the oldest active w**e cooperative in Puglia, Italy! The cooperative consists of about 300 grower families that farm 700 hectares collectively, on average just two hectares each. These are family owned and operated vineyards, mostly farmed by hand, and many are bush vines over fifty years old. Recently, they were admitted to Italy’s Register of Historic Trademarks. While their calling card is Primitivo, it is the whites from this cooperative that the Steve’s staff has really fallen in love with.

One of our best-selling and favorite whites in the store is their Alice Verdeca (Verdeca is the grape—native to this area). You may recognize its signature fish label! Its freshness and notes of acacia, citrus, mineral and saline notes make it the perfect seafood pairing w**e, but honestly, it goes well with anything.

This week, we brought in Alice’s sister w**e, Uni Fiano. Fiano is also a native grape to southern Italy. This w**e is just as delicious as its counterpart. The w**e has concentrated and complex notes of golden apple, pear, peach, herbs, and florals. Enjoy with seafood as well, or try it with roasted chicken or even pork chops with apples.

Thirsty Thursday: A Triton Among Minnows 🐟

Bodegas Vatan’s Triton Tinta de Toro is a charming representation of the oldest clone of Tempranillo in Spain, located in the only Spanish DO (Designation of Origin) that completely resisted the phylloxera plague. Due to its resistance, the vine age here can be quite old. Triton’s oldest vines were planted in 1900 and the youngest in 1970! This vine age contributes to concentration and complexity in a region that is already known for its robust and powerful style.

Though this w**e is full-bodied and intense, it is very much in balance. The grippy tannins, juicy fruit, vibrant acidity, and elegantly integrated oak work together in harmony to produce a w**e greater than the sum of its parts. Enjoy notes of plum, blackberry, cherry, graphite, mocha, violet, and roasted spices. This w**e is at the beginning of its drinking window, so enjoy now through 2031. This is the perfect w**e to cozy up with, enjoy in front of the fireplace or with stick-to-your-rib type meals like lasagna, savory stews, filet mignon, Shepherd’s pie, and pork tacos. For a vegetarian pairing, try ratatouille or roasted vegetable pizza.

Half Acre - L***r Town Oktoberfest

Half Acre’s L***r Town Oktoberfest has been a fall fridge staple for as long as we can remember. It’s an clean and easy drinking Marzen-style that uses a light touch of American hops to add crispness and enhance drinkability. It’s another week of doubling up on new b**r pictures down here at Steve’s Junction, and this week is a doozy. Let’s kick it off with Lagunitas Sucks, a happy accident that resulted in one of the best IPAs of its time (but still holds up in 2026). When in Milwaukee, you pick up some Amorphic b**rs for the shelf. A wild rice Czech style l***r and a jasmine rice Vietnamese style l***r are chilled down and ready to crush. Smoke em if you got em? We got em. Working Draft’s Blue Plume smoked wild rice l***r is back, and Schlenkerla’s Grodziskie is here in cans for the very first time. St. Bernardus’ Christmas Quad is in for the “never too early” crowd and Dogfish Punkin is back for the “oops forgot to get my fall b**r early” crowd. Bottle Logic baller barrel aged stouts are also here, four varieties!
