Living sober + heading to an all-inclusive resort?
Same! First time for meâso Iâm bringing you along. đ´â¨
The first 5 years of my sobriety I wrote off all inclusives, but I was looking to truly relax and make no hard decisions, so 24/7 room service and buffets and a lazy river at an adults only beachside resort sounded ideal! In the less than 24 hours Iâve been here, it has been!
Step 1: Bring your own elevated nonalcoholic options in travel-size bottles. If you only pack one thing, make it a travel pack (1 oz each). Instant upgrade to everything. I brought St Ember, Calm + Awake, shot, Relax shot, and đš
Step 2: Be ready to turn down drinks the second you leave customs. There are outdoor bars everywhereâand even airport transportation offers alcohol on the ride. I told my driver I wasnât cut out for Mexican jail, so Iâd pass, but Iâm sure a simple âNo thanks!â would work too âşď¸.
Step 3: Expect a welcome drink upon arrival. They had champagne (my former fave). The glass is sexy, the contents donât actually matter. Sparkling water please, in the fancy glass!
Step 4: Staff is trained to get you âin the mood,â and a lot of that language revolves around drinking/tequila/partying. The bellman joked they have wheelchairs for when guests get too drunkâwhich, given how massive this resort is, is⌠actually kind of brilliant đ
Step 5: Ask to have all alcohol removed from your room.
âEven the beer?â đ Yesâeven the beer.
I swapped it for extra waters, orange juice, soda water, and Hersheyâs bars. Zero regrets.
Step 6: Bring your sober supports. For me: a journal, a scented candle, tangerine oil, an eye mask, a printed photo of me with my kids, yoga and being at the beach. â¤ď¸
Final truth: Sobriety hasnât taken anything away from this vacation.
Itâs given me everything backâpresence, peace, and the kind of rest that actually restores.
