July 28, 2025

On July 25, 2025, at approximately 8:20pm, Deputies from the Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shoplifting in the Hatteras area. During the course of the investigation, deputies developed probable cause to review surveillance footage and execute a search of the suspect.

Autumn L. Smith, F/34, from Hatteras, NC, was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Ma*****na, (M) Shoplifting Concealment Goods, and (M) Misdemeanor Larceny.

Ms. Smith was issued a $7,500 secured bond.

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to protecting and serving our community. The Office strongly encourages anyone with information about potential threats to public safety or other criminal activities to contact local law enforcement.
