First up in our Cabernet Sauvignon tasting tour, we're off to the USA. 🇺🇸🍷

Three Thieves Cabernet Sauvignon is a big, fruity red, with plenty of cherry and berry flavours, a touch of toasted vanilla and a full finish.

If you're wondering what to eat with it, this is one for the hearty stuff. Grilled red meat, roast lamb and pork chops all work brilliantly, or try it with a mushroom risotto if you're keeping things veggie.

Three Thieves Cabernet Sauvignon
£14.49 | 13.5% ABV | USA

And you don't have to take our word for it.

We'll have a bottle open in the shop this week, so pop in and have a taste before you decide whether it's coming home with you.

Ever tried two Cabernet Sauvignons and wondered how they can possibly be made from the same grape?

Where a wine is grown can make a huge difference to what ends up in your glass.

Cabernet Sauvignon grown in warmer regions such as Chile can give you rich, ripe flavours like blackcurrant and plum. From a cooler climate, you might find firmer tannins and more cedar and herbal notes.

That's one of the things that makes trying wines from different parts of the world so interesting. Same grape, but potentially a very different bottle.

If Cabernet is usually your thing, try one from somewhere you haven't explored before. And if you're not sure where to start, pop in and ask us. We'll happily point you in the right direction.

It's International Cabernet Sauvignon Day, so we've picked three bottles that show just how different the same grape can be.

Three Thieves Cabernet Sauvignon - USA - £14.49
Caliterra Cabernet Sauvignon - Chile - £13.70
Bolgrad Cabernet Sauvignon - Ukraine - £14.50

Three countries, three very different growing conditions and three Cabernets to try.

If you usually stick to one region, today's a good excuse to venture somewhere else. Or, if you're feeling particularly dedicated to the cause, try all three and see which gets your vote.

They're available in store and online. We deliver across the UK, with free local delivery Wednesday-Sunday in PR8 and PR9.

Our next Wine Tasting Evening is in the diary!

Join us on Wednesday 30th September for the chance to try some brilliant wines, learn a little about what you're drinking and, hopefully, find a new favourite or two.

You absolutely don't need to know your Bordeaux from your Barolo to come along. That's half the fun. Ask questions, try something you wouldn't usually pick and see what you think.

Places are limited, so we'd recommend booking early if you'd like to join us.

Reserve your place today at https://portlandwines.com/wine-tastings

One thing we love about wine is that every bottle tells a story.

Behind every label is a vineyard, a family, a region and generations of craftsmanship.

Throughout our Summer Series we've explored countries, regions and producers from around the world, but the common thread has always been passionate people making exceptional wines.

If you've discovered a new favourite this summer, we'd love to hear about it in the comments.

As part of the Portland Wine Summer Series, this week's featured wine comes from Australia's Murray Darling region.

Barramundi Merlot is a smooth, approachable red that reflects the warmth and character of this renowned wine producing region. Grown where the Murray and Darling rivers meet, the vineyards benefit from reliable irrigation, helping produce beautifully ripe, fruit driven wines.

Expect aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and a subtle hint of mint, followed by rich flavours of blackberry and plum with a soft, silky finish.

A versatile food wine, it pairs wonderfully with pizza, chicken dishes or a simple parmesan crostini.
