Just produced some actual tears looking back through all the photos on our social media. The things we were excited about, the beers that made us squeal, things that worked, things that didn't, covid times, beloved regulars, OUR YOUNG FACES.

This weekend marks eight years since we opened Eel & Bear. It's a bittersweet one, for obvious reasons. Two more months and we're outta here 🥲 Making me cry again. Come raise a glass. We're open as normal re. the BH.

IIIIIIT'S another update about a beer we've had for at least a week! Feels like as weeks go though, the past one was a fair excuse.

Still, this beer. Yes it's another big stout. You can drink stouts in summer. We thought we'd missed the boat on this one, and suddenly it was available again and we snapped. that. s**t. up.

You know a stout is going to slap when are involved. This is a collab between and Emperors. It's a maple fudge imperial stout. Sweet, deep and unctuous. It is everything.

We're open for the buying of it, and indeed the drinking of it.

What. a. DAY 🌿🌿

Congratulations to the organisers and to everyone involved in on another extraordinary, life affirming event and incredible turnout. It was a thrill and a genuine honour to be even a small part of it.

We're back open as normal for the week.

Very pleased indeed to finally make it up for the May Day morris shenanigans on the West Hill this morning. Feelings of joy, and community, and tradition, and psychotic sleep deprivation. Beautiful Hastings at its best 💚

We're open our usual hours this BH weekend. 12-8 Friday and Saturday, 12-5 Sunday. Then Monday, all being well, you might spot us in the parade along with the unsuspecting little baby 🌿 🐐🐇 🌿

You know those weeks where you think you've raved about a beer series on social media and it turns out you just plain haven't? That 🙄

Operation Genome is an annual series of collabs brought to you by . It's all about "beer hybridization" - hybrid recipes and approaches to brewing, with the aim of producing seriously special, unique beers.

The glass of custard pictured is a collaboration with Latvia's . It's a ridiculous, smooth, sweet, ice cream situation with banana, apple, mango and passionfruit. It's 6% melted ice cream and that's the end of it.

The other can is a DIPA with Motueka, Nectaron, Peacharine, Nelson Sauvin and Eggers Special; built with an amplified dry hop and layered with additions throughout, designed for maximum hop saturation. Intense and tropical, with minimal bitterness and a soft, rounded finish. It's a collab with Maryland's .

These arrived last week. More things arriving this week. With any luck we'll post about some of them before next week, but it's best to just pop in and gaze upon the fridges.

So of course the imperial version, Shattered Dream, is 💪

So you better believe a mashup of the imperial version and past birthday beast Black Mirror - Shattered Mirror (9.1%) - will be a rich, chocolatey, smooth, roasty dopamine hit 😍🎉🍆

Soft, fruity pales of all strengths new on the shelves this week. Special mention to FWD #1, part of the Yakima Chief FWD programme, giving brewers access to new, not yet commercialised hop varieties from its innovation pipeline. Excite, etc.

To all who've enquired and any who've wondered: we will be open our usual hours this BH weekend. That's 12-8 Friday and Saturday, 12-5 Sunday, closed Monday for our own shenanigans with this funster.

Also, exciting news! We now have one high chair, which you are welcome to use to shackle your marauding infant while you enjoy a beer. Just ask and we will whip it out. You may not even have to ask; we're now quite familiar with the wild, desperate expression that goes with needing a high chair and needing a beer.

We'll be opening slightly later today due to a minor tooth-related predicament.

CITRA: ALL FOUR from Floc. Brewing

The eagle eyed may spot that this is three.

Well.

Citra: All Four is a single-hop showcase that explores how Citra expresses itself as strength and hopping is gradually increased.

The first example is a cask beer, and everyone knows cask doesn't come in a can.

So here stands the remaining trio. One 5% DDH pale, one 6.5% DDH IPA, and one 8% DIPA.

Each beer is brewed using 100% new season Citra hops.

Grab them quick, gobble them up, get your Citra on. And seek out the 4% cask version at your favourite superior casky establishment, as you know it too will be banging.
