We’ve heard this phrase quite a bit, “We’d rather be lucky than good”… but it wasn’t until this weekend, that we truly felt that meaning… our driver had a heck of a heat race day… He won all of them but one (had an awesome race in that one too until the finish line), but when it came to the features… Nash man had bad luck on his side… becoming collateral damage twice after 2 other cars wrecks, and unfortunately, the calls that were made really hurt him…
Jr. Honda: We had an extremely fast car.. we were in p3 when p2 and a lap car got hooked together, turning the p2 car to the left across the track and since Nash had already committed to going down low to avoid the wreck that was up high, he had no where to go when the car was then turned left. That hit then pushed Nash into the infield, putting him all 4 below, where he would then stop after a caution was thrown. He unfortunately then had the call put on him and had to go to the back. 💔 he then wheeled it back up to p4! We’re so proud of his drive! That’s a TRUE racer right there.. just no luck. 🙂
Jr. Animal: read my post on the heat to know how we got to the C Main (he did awesome in that heat race, it was just hard battling at the finish line that stopped us before the checkered line).
Feature: Started 8th in the c main.. drove quickly up to p2, caught the leader faster than he was expecting, spun the leader, putting us starting over in the back. Drove back to a transfer spot, then 2 cars got together in front of us and the 2nd car that was involved was turned left across our nose and we got a DOT call instead of an “after the fact”. This put us to the back for a 3rd time, where in only a few laps left, he would drive it back up to finish in 5th.
Jr. 160: by this point, our man was feeling completely defeated… he still gave it his all and battled in the top 5 the whole race. Car was a little too tight for him to do what he needed to come off with a win.
Definitely nothing he could’ve done differently, but, sometimes the competition is the other cars and sometimes you race the track… and this weekend, we had wild situations against us 👎 … Nash still wheeled it back up to 2 top 5s, just none of the wins we were hoping for. While this was an important weekend for us, we are remembering that these outcomes they have at age 9, doesn’t necessarily truly reflect their skills… sometimes it just reflects someone’s luck. And in reality, “We’d rather be good, than lucky” 🙂 We’re always learning, sometimes they’re just different lessons! On to the next… 🙂
