So this Labor Day, we raise a glass to everyone whose work makes bourbon possible—from the farm and the cooperage to the distillery, the warehouse, the delivery truck, our shelves at Goebel Liquor, and finally your glass.

And now we want to hear from you.

🥃 What’s your bourbon story?
Was there a bottle that started it all? A special pour with a parent, grandparent or friend? A distillery trip you’ll never forget? A bottle you opened for a wedding, birthday, promotion or other milestone?

Share your bourbon story in the comments. Tell us the bottle, the memory, the people—or all three.

Because the best part of bourbon isn’t always what’s in the glass.

Sometimes, it’s who you shared it with and the memory that came with it.

GREAT BOURBON. GOOD PEOPLE. LASTING MEMORIES.

Build memories, not just collections.

🥃🇺🇸 LABOR DAY — AN AMERICAN TRADITION 🇺🇸🥃

As we continue celebrating National Bourbon Heritage Month, Labor Day feels like the perfect time to recognize the people behind every bottle.

Made in America.
Aged in American oak.
Shared around American tables.

Bourbon doesn’t happen because of one person.

🌽 It starts with farmers growing the corn, rye, wheat and barley.
🪵 It depends on coopers shaping and charring the new American oak barrels.
🔥 It takes distillers turning grain, water and yeast into wh***ey.
🏚️ It takes warehouse crews tending those barrels through years of hot summers and cold winters.
🚚 It takes drivers and distributors moving those bottles across the country.
🏪 And then it arrives at places like Goebel Liquor, where our job becomes helping you find the bottle that’s right for your table, your celebration, or simply a good evening with friends.

For us, being a retailer is more than putting bottles on a shelf.

Since 1978, Goebel Liquor has been part of the Wichita community. We’ve had the privilege of getting to know our customers, hearing your bourbon stories, helping you discover new favorites, and watching bottles leave our store headed for birthdays, holidays, weddings, backyard gatherings and quiet pours shared between friends.

That’s the part of the bourbon story we get to be a part of every day.

We may not grow the corn, build the barrels or run the stills—but we get to make the final connection between all that hard work and you.

And that matters to us.

🥃 Because eventually, every great bottle is meant to be opened.

It’s American agriculture.
It’s American craftsmanship.
It’s American jobs.
It’s local businesses.
And most importantly, it’s people.

So this Labor Day, we raise a glass to everyone whose work makes bourbon possible—from the farm and the cooperage to the distillery, the warehouse, the delivery truck, our shelves at Goebel Liquor, and finally your glass.

GREAT BOURBON. GOOD PEOPLE. LASTING MEMORIES.

Build memories, not just collections.

🥃🇺🇸 BOURBON HERITAGE SUNDAY 🇺🇸🥃

As we celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month, today we’re looking at a little of the history behind America’s Native Spirit.

In 1964, the U.S. Congress recognized bourbon as a distinctive product of the United States—a uniquely American wh***ey tradition built on grain, oak, time and generations of craftsmanship.

So why is Kentucky considered the cultural heart of bourbon?

🌽 Corn was plentiful — Kentucky farmers had access to the grain bourbon requires in abundance.

💧 Limestone-filtered water — much of Kentucky’s water naturally filters through limestone, helping remove iron while retaining minerals useful in wh***ey production.

🔥 Generations of distilling knowledge — settlers brought wh***ey-making traditions that evolved over time into what we know today as bourbon.

🪵 Barrels & climate — Kentucky’s hot summers and cold winters help wh***ey move in and out of charred oak, developing color, aroma and flavor.

🚢 Location mattered — rivers and trade routes helped Kentucky wh***ey travel far beyond the state and build its reputation across America.

Today, bourbon can legally be made anywhere in the United States, but Kentucky remains its most famous home—filled with historic distilleries, rickhouses, family legacies and stories that helped shape American wh***ey.

That’s what Bourbon Heritage Month is really about.

Not just the bottle.

It’s the farmers. The coopers. The distillers. The warehouse crews. The families. The traditions.

And ultimately, the people we share the pour with.

🥃 GREAT BOURBON. GOOD PEOPLE. LASTING MEMORIES.

Build memories, not just collections.

🥃 NATIONAL BOURBON HERITAGE MONTH

THE BARREL SHAPES THE WH***EY

Every bourbon begins its aging journey in a new charred-oak container—but that does not have to be where its flavor journey ends.

Many distillers transfer mature bourbon into a second barrel for finishing. Former Port, sherry, rum, Cognac and w**e casks can introduce entirely new layers of fruit, sweetness, spice, texture and aroma.

Our new guide explores 12 influential cask styles and the flavor signatures each one may leave behind—from the vanilla, caramel and toasted-oak character of new charred oak to the dried fruit of sherry and the tropical sweetness of rum casks.

The next time you taste a finished bourbon or wh***ey, look beyond the age and proof. Ask yourself: What did the barrel contribute?

Stop by Goebel Liquor and let us help you explore how wood, time and a cask’s former life can shape what ends up in your glass.

Happy Birthday Jack!!!

🥃 Happy Birthday, Uncle Jack! 🥃

On this day in 1846, a baby boy was born right here in Lynchburg, Tennessee. His name was Jasper Newton Daniel but the world would come to know him simply as “Jack.”

From humble beginnings, Jack Daniel built more than a wh***ey distillery. He created a legacy that would become woven into the history and character of Lynchburg itself.

Today, we celebrate the man, the legend, and the icon we affectionately call Uncle Jack.

You don't need an invitation to join the celebration. Just raise a glass, tip your hat, and toast to the birthday boy!

🥃 Happy Birthday, Jack Daniel!
Here’s to 180 years of Uncle Jack!

🥃 WHAT MAKES BOURBON… BOURBON? 🥃

September is National Bourbon Heritage Month, so today we’re going back to the basics with a little Bourbon 101 from Goebel Liquor and Rob’s World of Whisk(e)y.

Not every wh***ey can be called bourbon. To earn the name, it has to follow some very specific rules:

🇺🇸 Made in the United States
🌽 The mash bill must contain at least 51% corn
🔥 Distilled at 160 proof or less
🪵 Aged in new, charred oak containers
💧 Entered into the barrel at 125 proof or less
🥃 Bottled at at least 80 proof
🚫 No added coloring or flavoring

And here’s one of the biggest bourbon myths:

Bourbon does NOT have to be made in Kentucky.

Kentucky is bourbon’s most famous home, but great bourbon can be produced anywhere in the United States as long as it follows the rules.

So what happens inside that barrel? Corn provides much of bourbon’s signature sweetness, while new charred oak helps develop those wonderful notes of caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, spice and more.

That combination of grain, barrel, time and craftsmanship is what makes bourbon one of America’s great wh***ey traditions.

🥃 All September long, we’ll be exploring bourbon together—mash bills, proofs, barrels, Bottled-in-Bond, wheated bourbons, barrel proof releases, distillery history and plenty of bottles worth discovering.
