This upcoming Sunday is significant for a few reasons. The first of which, Summer will be officially here! And if it can stop downpouring rain and blowing our trees down, we can take some time to enjoy it!
And of course don't forget about Father's Day too, it's time for the Dads and Patriarch's to get their recognition for all that they do for their families and loved ones. So Vern's has picked out a few items that we feel will pair exceptionally well for this Sunday, whether the Dads want to treat themselves to a good deal, or if someone is looking for an easy gift for their "old man." It's USA's time to shine for the World Cup! Cheer on America's team tonight at 8pm as they take on Paraguay in California. And this is only one of six games that can be watched today, the first one starting at 11am.... speaking of the World Cup, we just so happened to have acquired a Michelob Ultra World Cup cooler, and wouldn't you know it, we just don't have enough room in our store for another one in storage. So let's just go ahead and plan to give it to one of you lucky individuals! From today, 6/12 thru Sunday 6/14, you can stop by the store and enter your name and contact phone number for a chance to win this cooler, no purchase is necessary to enter! We will draw the lucky winner on Monday the 15th. One entry per customer, and customer must be present at the store to enter (you will be automatically disqualified from winning if we find multiple entries, so no cheating).
If you didn't see the TapThat Topeka update, they have rescheduled their event, due to potential bad weather this Saturday. The new date will be July 11th from 5pm to 8pm. If you have tickets, or are planning on attending the downtown sampling event, don't show up tomorrow!

About last night...
We sampled some Rolling Fork Cask Strength Rums, learned some history, played some trivia and gave away some bottles, earned some 💰 for a local charity, ate some tasty food and laughed... a lot 🤣

Vern's is proud to offer many Rolling Fork Rums including The Lost Cask Collection, which is exclusive to our store, as well as 3 Bourbon de Luxe Single Barrels.

🚨🚨🚨FLASH SALE ALERT🚨🚨🚨

Happy June all! And what a good June it will be, cause it's World Cup time baby! Next week, THE international football competition will begin, and it will be time again to see which country will reign supreme as the best football team in the world. This will be the first tournament in since the field has been expanded to 48 teams total, so more games means more fun, the first game is slated to kick off next Thursday the 11th at 2pm, Mexico vs South Africa. And our boys in the red, white and blue will play their first match on Friday at 8pm vs Paraguay!
The state of Kansas has allowed liquor stores and bars to stay open till 5am everyday, from the first game, until a champion is crowned, if the business elects to extend their hours. While there might be a handful of stores and bars in the KCK area taking advantage of some additional business hours, we doubt there will be much interest in that here in the Topeka market, especially from liquor stores! Vern's hours will remain the same, Chris doesn't feel like working 20 hour workdays at the moment... check with your favorite bar here in the city to see if they plan on extending their hours, you might find some that will stay open later!

🚨🚨🚨FLASH SALE ALERT🚨🚨🚨

With our store location being less than a mile away from a commercial gym, we see on a daily basis individuals stop by Vern's for a post workout drink. Because nothing is better than a nice adult beverage after a nice, hard gym session, right? It begs the question, are there any benefits to alcohol consumption after working out?
The simple answer is no, no there aren't any benefits. Quite the opposite, in fact. Alcohol intake after a workout can halt the body's ability to recover, as well as it's ability to repair and strengthen muscle build, by reducing muscle protein synthesis. Therefore, it severely limits your gains, bro, lay off the brewskis after pumping iron! Also, alcohol can increase dehydration since it is a natural diuretic, and after a hard sweaty workout, your body is looking for ways to rehydrate, not the opposite. And post workout consumption of alcohol can increase your body's cortisol levels, a stress hormone that increases muscle breakdown. Feel free to enjoy an occasional drink, in moderation, after a workout, but don't let it become a regular habit, your body will thank you!
