South and Barrel Wine and Spirits is getting in another Elkwood 15 barrel (Bourbon Gentlemen pick). Half the barrel shows up this Friday (12/20)

Tom Gautreaux, Derek Reneer, Scott Hau and I picked this barrel and used our last Elkwood 15 as a control. If you had our last pick (128 proof) and enjoyed it, this one is extremely similar from start to finish. It comes in at 126 proof and has the same up front flavor explosion, full mid-palate, and long woody/leathery/brown sugar finish. This second barrel is a bit more buttery, and there is a bit more pronounced cherry up front, but it’s like 99% the same profile as barrel 1. Honestly, we could not decide which we liked better. The other barrels we tried from this run were certainly good, but the one we chose really stood out to us (same as with our first barrel).

Some of the bottles are earmarked for people who missed out on barrel 1, but we will have a number of cases available on Friday by late afternoon. If you missed out on Pappy and BTAC this year, come give this a try and see why we call it the BTAC Killer!

This would be a great gift for that hard to shop for person or important client!

BOURBON DROP ALERT!

It’s fall y’all, and it’s not just leaves that are dropping on Signal Mountain!

Our store has its first single barrel coming in tomorrow (picked by us, the Bourbon Gentlemen)! Due to the limited bottle yield, we only have a handful available. The juice was distilled by Buffalo Trace based on a Wild Turkey recipe, and has been aged in the barrel in Kentucky for 15 years.

We selected this barrel from a run of barrels that was acquired by a private bottler in Kentucky several months back and we have been waiting on pins and needles for it to arrive. For what it’s with, when we picked the barrel, we brought bottles of Russell Reserve 15 Russell Reserve 13 with us as baseline comps, and this barrel is right there with those bottles!

The juice is coming in at barrel strength - 125 proof! Here’s a chance for a handful of our customers to grab a top tier bottle that I would put up against Turkey’s best. We will have a taster available as well.

The price is $239 per bottle, so it’s not cheap, but it’s absolutely worth the ask. More details to come, so stay tuned, and come by tomorrow if you’re interested!

For you collectors out there, you should know what run of barrels we are talking about and know what this juice is commanding under other labels…..
