South and Barrel Wine and Spirits is getting in another Elkwood 15 barrel (Bourbon Gentlemen pick). Half the barrel shows up this Friday (12/20)
Tom Gautreaux, Derek Reneer, Scott Hau and I picked this barrel and used our last Elkwood 15 as a control. If you had our last pick (128 proof) and enjoyed it, this one is extremely similar from start to finish. It comes in at 126 proof and has the same up front flavor explosion, full mid-palate, and long woody/leathery/brown sugar finish. This second barrel is a bit more buttery, and there is a bit more pronounced cherry up front, but it’s like 99% the same profile as barrel 1. Honestly, we could not decide which we liked better. The other barrels we tried from this run were certainly good, but the one we chose really stood out to us (same as with our first barrel).
Some of the bottles are earmarked for people who missed out on barrel 1, but we will have a number of cases available on Friday by late afternoon. If you missed out on Pappy and BTAC this year, come give this a try and see why we call it the BTAC Killer!
This would be a great gift for that hard to shop for person or important client!
