The Mettler family has been growing grapes in Lodi since the 1880’s and producing organic, sustainable wines for the last 100 years. The family is involved from the vineyard to the bottle, there isn't an aspect of Mettler Wines that hasn't been touched the hands of a family member. Shiba Wichern Cellars is Akiko Shiba and Chris Wichern. Akiko, a Japanese national, completed her enology and viticulture degree at University of Geisenheim in Germany’s Rheingau region. In 2009 without having ever even visited they moved to Oregon in search of world class Pinot Noir. A lot has happened since that first vintage. Together they now produce about 1,000 cases of hand-made wine per year at their “garage-winery” in Willamina, OR.
