Sicilian Wine Tasting 🍋

Let's pretend we're on a sun-soaked Sicilian beach-sea breeze in our hand, wine glass in hand.

Join us this Thursday, April 17th, from 5-7pm for a Sicilian themed tasting as we explore the beautiful, rugged landscape of Sicily through three delicious wines. All made from indigenous grape varieties-think volcanic soils, coastal sunshine, and centuries of winemaking tradition!

As always we'll have snacks to nibble while you sip your way through this little Italian adventure.

No passport needed 😉

If you know me, you know I have a deep love for New York State wines—especially those from the Finger Lakes. When I lived in New York City, I was absolutely spoiled with easy access to some of the best bottles coming out of that region.

So imagine my joy when I discovered that one of my favorite Finger Lakes producers is now being distributed right here in Virginia. These wines are stunning—thoughtful, expressive, and a beautiful reflection of the place they come from. I truly believe this producer is making some of the best wines in the region right now.

We’ll be pouring a selection of their wines in the shop this Thursday for you to taste, and I can’t wait to share them with you. They’ll also have a permanent home on our shelves going forward—because they’re just that good!

Producer Spotlight:
Tiberio

This week we're headed to Montepulicano d'Abruzzo, a central Italian region stretching from the Adriatic Sea to the Apennines mountain range in east-central Italy.

Tiberio Winery

This brother and sister run winery focuses on natvie wines to the region, biodiversity in their vineyards, and massal selection (also known as Selection massale" (French for "mass selection") which is a vineyard management technique where new vineyards are propagated by taking cuttings from the best existing vines within the same or nearby vineyard, aiming to maintain the unique characteristics of the old vineyard).

We'll taste three different wines from Tiberio including their Trebbiano Abruzzese, Montepulciano, and Cerasuolo
d'Abruzzo (rosé).

Basque Country, Spain

Join us as we head to the Spanish Basque Country this Thursday.

We'll be featuring a white and rosé Txakoli wine alongside a traditional Basque cider (if you like sour style beers, this cider is for you). Expect zippy, salty, and fresh flavors that will transport you straight to the coastal cliffs and rolling hills of this unique region.

Badass female winemaker from Puglia, Italy

Pietraventosa is home to a gentle style of viticulture that aims to preserve the identity and the personality of the wines.

I had the honor of tasting with Marianna (the winemaker) earlier this week and was so impressed by the quality, passion, and purity of the wines. I couldn't pass on these wines and I'm so excited to share them this week for our in-store tasting!

Gruner Veltliner

Let's travel to Austria this week!

Grüner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria and produces a dry white wine with
fresh-tasting notes of green apple, lemon, radish, and arugula.

Spring Is In The Air
(finally)

With temperatures in the 60s this week we're here for the spring vibes and leaning into it for this week's in-store tasting: Chill-able reds!

What's a chill-able red? A lighter-bodied red with low tannins, typically juicy fruit notes, and brighter acidity that is great with a chill on it! The French have a term called "Glou Glou" meaning "glug glug" for these types of reds due to their easy drinkability. As the name implies, these wines are meant to be poured not stored.

We'll go on a geographic trip from north to south exploring regions, grapes, and styles unique to the place they're from.

From a Method Ancestral sparkling white from the Marche region, to a classic Montepulciano in central Italy, to a full-bodied ripe Agliancio from Campania in the south.

No passport or plane ticket needed (as always our in-store tasting are free and 21+)!
