First Friday + Labor Day Weekend at Penny’s! 🙌🏾

We’re kicking things off TODAY (Friday) at 3 PM for w**e vibes, First Friday fun, and a little early start to the holiday weekend. Dinner service begins at 5 PM, and we’ll have a few fun specials in the mix too! Then tomorrow (Saturday), we’ll open at 5 PM with a limited holiday weekend menu as we ease our way into a much deserved break.

Come hang with us. And because it’s HOT out today, if you’re stopping by for First Friday, make sure you stay hydrated!

We are so excited to be back with our friends Dave and Barb from david and barbara for this year’s Summer Supper Somm Series! 🍅🍷

We are closed closed tonight to the public for an unforgettable Tomato Dinner celebrating the flavors of the season. This dinner is extra special because our very own Hillary Horne is stepping into the spotlight as the Event Culinary Lead, taking the reins in creating and executing the evening’s menu. Hillary has poured her heart into this event, crafting an incredible four-course menu that we’ll be pairing with delicious Virginia w**es. We can’t wait for more to experience her creativity and talent! (Also be sure to check out her market out front of Penny’s ever other Saturday morning 🙌🏾)

Unfortunately this one is already sold out but make sure you check out some of the other amazing restaurants participating the rest of this month!

Literally, still thinking about Lyon.

Great w**e. Incredible food. Wonderful people. A week full of moments we’ll remember for a long time.

One thing this trip reminded us is why we love to travel. It’s about slowing down, sharing meals, meeting the people who make a place special, and creating memories that stay with you long after you get home.

A little March photo dump + a little reflection

🍋 here, it’s been a minute (I seem to say that a lot nowadays 🤷🏾‍♂️… hey, life be lifing). It’s hard to believe Penny’s turned 3 in February. As usual, we forgot to celebrate (raise a glass for us when you can 😉). After 3 years, Kristen and I are still learning so much. It really feels like we just started, not physically, but mentally. We’re finally starting to understand the full picture of what the f* it takes to operate a restaurant!

We’re trusting our instincts and doing what we can, when we can, how we can - to the best of our ability. S**t hasn’t been easy, but we are truly blessed.
Like we’ve said before, Penny’s is small but mighty and it takes a village. Not just our staff, but you as patrons help us build this thing, and we’re grateful. We know Jackson Ward isn’t the “hottest” spot in Richmond, but we appreciate everyone who makes their way over to JW, stepping outside the usual spots to kick it with us.
We’re also super excited about the new establishments coming to the block (hey and few other fun others 😉 ). We’re just happy to exist in a space dedicated to our ancestors, in a neighborhood rooted in Black culture, and in a city that feels like it’s right on the verge of taking flight. Like Michael B. Jordan said: when he won his Oscar: “Thank you for betting on us. We’re going to keep stepping up and keep being the best version of ourselves.”
