Ingleside Albariño from the Northern Neck brings the citrus-and-stone side of Virginia whites, a perfectly creepy way to start an evening of trick or treating. Midland Cabernet Franc from out in the Shenandoah Valley is a savory, red-fruited beauty that will age gracefully for many years, just like a vampire.

Two answers to the same Virginia problem: water.

Zephaniah Chambourcin, 2021. Hybrids like Chambourcin were bred for exactly these conditions.

Afton Mountain Tannat, 2023. A vinifera from southwest France with skins thick enough that it doesn’t much care.

The holidays are closer than those warm afternoons make it feel, and a great Pinot Noir is exactly what the table wants. So before the rush, we're putting eight of them side by side.

Wednesday, Nov 11, 6 to 8pm: eight Pinot Noirs from two iconic regions, tasted glass for glass. Coastal California from Ceritas W**ery against a selection of Burgundy from the Neal Rosenthal portfolio, many exclusive to this event. A guided, terroir-focused tasting led by David Witkowsky of Potomac Selections and Diane McMartin. Light snacks, discounts, and some high-end Pinot to stock up on for the season.

Two Virginia bottles worth stocking up on. Delve Albariño brings the bright, saline, citrus-and-stone-fruit side of Virginia whites, crisp enough for the last warm afternoons. Rosemont of Virginia Merlot is the cozy counter, plush and dark-fruited, the bottle you want as the evenings cool off. Lunch, October 24.

Roasted butternut squash and burrata with crispy sage, toasted hazelnuts, and maple vinaigrette, paired with the 2024 Viognier. Then cider-braised short ribs over parmesan polenta with red w**e jus, paired with the 2023 Cabernet Franc Reserve.

Lunch is served at .w**es in the middle of a full day exploring Virginia w**e. We’re Barrel Thief, a w**e shop in Richmond, and on October 24 we’re taking a small group to three w**eries: the custom crush floor at Common Wealth Crush, the vineyard at Southwest Mountain with GM Dave Kostelnik, and a sit-down with w**emaker Matthieu Finot at King Family.

Luxury transportation from Richmond, coffee and bagels for the road, and a guided tasting at every stop. $450 per person. The trip is now sold out.
