FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MCSO INVESTIGATION LEADS TO IDENTIFICATION OF OWENS CROSS ROADS WAGON WHEEL BURGLARY SUSPECT:

On September 8, 2026, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a burglary at the Wagon Wheel liquor store on Highway 431 in Owens Cross Roads. Detectives obtained surveillance video showing a concealed individual entering the business and removing items.

Following a thorough investigation, detectives used information obtained through social media, surveillance footage from local businesses and Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology to identify a vehicle believed to have been involved in the burglary. Detectives determined the vehicle was a rental car and subsequently identified Justin Lamont Erskine, 36, of the Harvest area as a suspect in the case.

Detectives later executed a search warrant at Erskine’s residence, where stolen property and tools believed to have been used during the burglary were recovered. Erskine was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. His bond was set at $10,000 for each charge, for a total of $20,000. Erskine also had two failure-to-appear warrants, each with a $2,500 bond, bringing his total bond amount to $25,000.

This case is another example of how solid investigative work, cooperation from local businesses, and the responsible use of technology can work together to help identify those responsible for crimes in our community. ALPR technology provided investigators with an important lead, but it was only one part of a broader investigation that ultimately led detectives to the suspect and the recovery of the stolen property.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information regarding charges and bond will be released when available.
