Spice Meets Slice: Why Thai Curry Loves Riesling

Spice lovers, meet your match. 🌶️
A dry Riesling is the unsung hero when it comes to fiery Thai curry — its crisp acidity slices through coconut cream, while a hint of residual sweetness cools the burn.
Each sip resets your palate, letting every lemongrass, ginger, and chili note shine through.

Perfect with:
🥥 Red or green Thai curry with chicken or tofu
🍚 Jasmine rice
🌿 Fresh basil + lime

Shop Here and find your favorite: https://www.kdwine.com/wines/Riesling/

Tip: Skip the ice, freeze grapes and use them to keep your wine cool — serve your Riesling lightly chilled to keep the balance between spice and sweetness just right.

Do you go for mild, medium, or make-it-burn Thai curry? Tell us below — we’ll match your spice level to your next wine pick!

🍾 What Does “Brut” Actually Mean?

If you’ve ever picked up a bottle of sparkling wine — Champagne, Prosecco, or Cava — and noticed the word “Brut” on the label, you’ve already brushed up against one of the most misunderstood wine terms. Let’s break it down simply.

🥂 The Basics:

“Brut” describes the sweetness level of sparkling wine — specifically, how much residual sugar remains after fermentation.
In wine terms, Brut means dry, not sweet. Technically, a Brut wine contains less than 12 grams of sugar per liter, which translates to a crisp, refreshing taste with just enough sweetness to balance acidity.

⚙️ The “How”: It’s All in the Dosage

Sparkling wines go through a second fermentation (that’s how they get their bubbles). After this process, winemakers may add a tiny amount of sugar solution called the “dosage” before sealing the bottle.
This dosage determines the sweetness category — from bone-dry Brut Nature to dessert-like Doux.

Official breakdown is in included in the picture.

So when you see Brut, think just enough sugar to soften the acidity, without making it taste sweet. It’s the sweet spot (pun intended) for most sparkling wine drinkers.

💡 The “Why”: Balance and Versatility

Brut is the most popular style worldwide because it’s incredibly food-friendly and crowd-pleasing.
The crisp acidity and subtle dryness make it pair perfectly with:

Salty snacks (chips, fries, popcorn — yes, really)

Shellfish and seafood

Cheese boards and charcuterie

Fried foods — bubbles + fat = culinary magic

It’s the reason Brut Champagnes and Proseccos dominate brunch tables, wedding toasts, and New Year’s celebrations. They’re vibrant, clean, and never cloying.

🏈🍷 Sip & Snack Pairings: Game Day Edition

When Sunday hits, it’s not just about the game — it’s about the snacks, the sips, and the good company. Whether you’re hosting a full-on watch party or just settling in with your favorite jersey and recliner, these wine + snack combos will make your football spread legendary.

Because let’s be honest — beer had a good run. It’s wine’s turn to play offense.

🍿 Rosé + Popcorn

Kick off with something light and crisp. Rosé’s bright fruit flavors slice right through buttery popcorn and salty seasoning — perfect for that first-quarter munch.
Try: Whispering Angel Rosé for clean, citrusy refreshment.

🍟 Prosecco + Fries

Your MVP pairing of the day. The bubbles scrub your palate clean between bites of fries (bonus points for garlic or truffle fries). This one’s perfect for halftime snacking.
Try: La Marca Prosecco

🌮 Malbec + Chips & Salsa

A total crowd-pleaser. Malbec’s juicy fruit and subtle spice complement salsa heat and salt perfectly. It’s the pairing that keeps the energy high no matter who’s winning.
Try: Bodegas y Viñedos Catena - Malbec

🧈 Chardonnay + Kettle-Cooked Potato Chips
Why it works: A crunchier, more elevated twist on the fries pairing. The salt enhances the wine’s fruit, while the rich texture pairs well with Chardonnay’s smooth mouthfeel.
Try: Rombauer Chardonnay

🥨 Pinot Noir + Pretzels

A steady performer. The silky texture and gentle spice of Pinot Noir balance the salt and crunch of pretzels — a dependable fourth-quarter sip.
Try: Belle Glos “Clark & Telephone.”

🍫 Cabernet Sauvignon + Dark Chocolate

Game over. When the final whistle blows, reward yourself. The dark fruit and tannins of a bold Cab pair perfectly with rich chocolate — a sweet victory combo.
Try: Caymus Cabernet

No need to overthink it — just grab your favorite snacks, pop a cork, and make Sunday’s watch party your new tradition.
