2002 is one of the great modern Ch*****ne vintages, but this particular release is remembered just as much for its connection to Andy Warhol, with Dom Pérignon’s normally restrained label transformed through bold Pop Art-inspired colour.
The link feels particularly fitting. Warhol had written about Dom Pérignon decades earlier, fascinated by the idea of laying Ch*****ne down for the future and wondering who might eventually be there to drink it.
That thought feels rather different when you’re opening a case more than twenty years after the w**e was made.
A brilliant vintage, an extraordinary artist and six bottles that have already lived quite a life before a cork has even been pulled.
