Anatomy of an image linked to a bond between viticulturist & winemaker. Larry Venturi & Dick Handal.

In 2020 I snapped a photo of Larry & Dick at Dick’s vineyard after he let Larry cut some vines for a future project. Candidly we joked that this image should be put on a bottle.

Fast forward two years and the talented Chris Blum designed such a label for the upcoming bottling of Ottant’anni wine. The wine: Sangiovese from Venturi Vineyards and Cabernet from the Handal vineyard. In the style of a super Tuscan honoring the friendship and shared birth year: celebrating their 80th birthdays.

In 2023, Larry visited Locals with a friend and we randomly snapped a group photo that included other customers who happened to be tasting the Ottant’anni. 🍷
This past February, Larry passed away after a long illness. Larry insisted we not grieve but celebrate his life and drink wine.

Last Saturday the same group of women came in for a tasting, got their Venturi bottles signed by Dick. And as luck would have it Larry’s widow and daughter paid a visit and we connected over all of this.
