🍁 September is upon us, and autumn is right around the corner. Early fall in Beaufort doesn’t quite look like sweater weather and turning the heat on. Instead, this transition is marked by subtle changes to what we’re eating and what we pair it with. Take a look at our top picks for the month:
1) Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc 🇫🇷
Unlike fruit-heavy styles from warmer climates, this French style of Sauvignon Blanc is shaped by cool climates and limestone or flint soils creating aromas of subtle smoke and a palate that showcases minerality with herbal undertones making this an incredibly versatile w**e for pairing with foods from creamy goat cheeses to shellfish. 2) Felgueiras Vinho Verde 🇵🇹
With high aromatic notes of green apple, peach, and pear, this Portuguese varietal offers low alcohol and a lively finish that cuts through richer fall comfort foods like baked fish and harvest salads. It also lends itself well to spice, making it an excellent pairing for chili or spiced poultry. Pictured here: Gateway Vinho Verde
3) Western Cape Cinsault 🇿🇦
With aromas of earthy, wild strawberries, a medium body, and a soft finish, this South African style red w**e is best enjoyed slightly chilled. A perfect stepping stone for transitioning into red w**es this fall, this style pairs wonderfully with roasted duck or grilled pork chops and will make a great addition to the table this season.
