The long holiday weekend is here, and that calls for something a little more special than your everyday smoke.

This Fuente Friday, we’re recommending the Fuente Fuente OpusX Forbidden X Deseos D’Amor — a rare 5¼ x 50 expression of one of the most sought-after families in the Fuente portfolio.

The original OpusX made history by proving that world-class wrapper to***co could be grown in the Dominican Republic, creating the legendary Dominican puro. Forbidden X takes that idea even further. Carlito Fuente selects some of the rarest to***cos grown at Château de la Fuente and ages the mysterious blend in the family's famed Forbidden barrels.

The result is a rich, complex smoke with cedar and wood up front, dark cocoa, leather and dried-fruit sweetness, backed by a nice touch of cracked pepper and baking spice. As it develops, look for touches of espresso and a lingering natural sweetness balancing out the strength.

Working alongside AJ Fernandez, Aging Room ci**rs rolled at AJ’s factory in Nicaragua, Nodal has built his brand around distinctive blends with plenty of character. Created by Drew Estate Master Blender W***y Herrera, the Herrera Estelí Habano was built around balance and classic Cuban-style craftsmanship. Herrera experimented with more than 75 different blends before settling on the final recipe, using traditional entubado bunching and a triple cap to create a cigar that's refined, complex, and exceptionally smooth.
