A remarkable honour for a true master of sake.

We are delighted to share that Mr Naohiko Noguchi, whose exceptional sake we proudly import to New Zealand, has been nominated as Japan’s first sake master (Toji) to receive the prestigious title of Living National Treasure.

One of Japan’s highest cultural honours, this recognition celebrates individuals who have achieved extraordinary mastery of traditional arts and craftsmanship. Since its introduction in 1955, only around 400 people have received this distinction.

For Mr Noguchi, whose lifetime has been dedicated to perfecting the art of sake brewing, this is an extraordinary achievement and a historic moment for Japanese sake.

We are immensely proud to bring his exceptional sake to New Zealand and our customers at Normanby.

Discover the artistry of Mr Noguchi at Normanby Fine W**es.

There's something rather wonderful about opening a magnum of Ch*****ne.

They look impressive, they're great fun to share, and there's something particularly satisfying about opening one. But did you know there's also a very good reason why magnums are widely considered the ideal format for Ch*****ne?

At 1.5 litres, twice the size of a standard bottle, Ch*****ne in magnum generally matures more slowly and gradually, helping preserve its freshness while developing greater depth and complexity over time.

So it's not just about making an impression on the table, although that certainly doesn't hurt!

With the festive season approaching, we've brought together a brilliant collection of Ch*****ne magnums at Normanby, from the great Ch*****ne houses to some wonderful smaller growers.

Whether it's for a celebration, a gathering with friends or simply the pleasure of opening something special, there's plenty to discover.

We've made it easy too, with the entire collection together in one place on our website.

Because sometimes, bigger really is better.

6 litres of spectacular Bordeaux!

We've opened the 6-litre Impériale of 2016 Les Tourelles de Longueville in Auckland, and WOW. It is tasting absolutely spectacular!

From Château Pichon Baron, one of Bordeaux's great Second Growth estates, this is a wonderful expression of Pauillac. Merlot-led, beautifully structured and now ten years from vintage, it's a w**e with all the pedigree of this remarkable estate behind it.

The 2016 is widely regarded as one of the outstanding modern Bordeaux vintages, particularly on the Left Bank. We knew this was going to be good, but tasting it from an Impériale, has been something rather special.

It's now pouring by the glass at Normanby Auckland, and we really do recommend coming in to try it. It's stunning!

Wellington, you're next! The Magnums are arriving tomorrow, and we'll be opening them to pour by the glass over the weekend.

It's not every day you get to enjoy a ten-year-old Pauillac from one of Bordeaux's most celebrated estates, poured from bottles of this size.

Come on in, we'd love to share it with you!

One of Bordeaux's great estates has arrived at Normanby.

Château Pichon Baron is one of the most celebrated names in Pauillac, classified as a Second Growth in the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification.

Its beautiful château, with its distinctive turrets, gives its w**e Les Tourelles de Longueville its name.

Les Tourelles offers something we particularly love — the opportunity to experience the pedigree of a great Bordeaux estate in a w**e that is a little more approachable, both in style and price.

Our Director of W**e, Liz Wheadon, has personally selected four vintages for Normanby: 2009, 2015, 2018 and 2016. From the beautifully mature 2009, recently re-released from the château, to the outstanding 2016, it's a wonderful collection to have together.

And to celebrate, we're opening the 2016 by the glass this Thursday.

In Wellington, from a Magnum. In Auckland, from a 6-litre.

Ten-year-old Pauillac from one of Bordeaux's great estates, poured from large-format bottles. Something we don't get to do every day.

We're very excited to have these w**es here and can't wait to share them with you.

6th Best Sommelier in the World! What an extraordinary achievement, Andrea!

We couldn’t be prouder to share that our Head Sommelier, Andrea Martinisi , has finished 6th in the ASI Best Sommelier of the World 2026 competition!
From 66 of the world’s finest sommeliers, Andrea secured an incredible 6th place, improving on his previous 8th-place finish and achieving the highest placing ever for New Zealand.

To finish 6th on the world stage, competing against the very best in the profession, is nothing short of extraordinary.

Andrea, your dedication, passion, determination and sheer hard work are an inspiration to us all. What an achievement, and so richly deserved.

Our Italian Kiwi, flying the New Zealand flag on the world stage!

From all of us at Normanby, congratulations, Andrea. We are immensely proud of you, and so lucky to have you as part of our team.

Bravo, Andrea!

Two cities, two wonderful evenings, and an extraordinary collection of Ch*****ne.

Over the past two weeks, we've had the pleasure of presenting Moët & Chandon tastings in Auckland and Wellington, celebrating the launch of Collection Impériale Création No. 1.

From the timeless elegance of Moët Impérial served from magnum, through the remarkable Grand Vintage Ch*****nes, including the exceptional 2008, before finishing with the w**e we had all gathered to discover.

Collection Impériale Création No. 1. The haute couture of Moët & Chandon. Seven vintages brought together in one extraordinary Ch*****ne, celebrating 280 years of craftsmanship.

Beautiful w**es, wonderful food pairings and, most importantly, the pleasure of sharing them with our guests.

A little look back at the evening.
