We live in a hard water zone, as our water pipes, kettles and shower doors know to their cost, with limescale and chalk build-ups being an ever-present problem. Never fear, Barton Stacey Stores are here.

For those of us with a water softener system, we keep in stock a few large 25Kg bags of softener salt for just £18.99* and because they’re heavy we offer free local delivery.

For your kettles and steam irons, Oust will clean them up beautifully, while Viakal, the UK's best limescale removing spray will have your showers looking lovely in no time.

*Make sure we have one when you need it - contact us by Wednesday evening for Friday availability.

JOB OPENING

We are looking for one or more friendly and helpful people to work at the store.

A desire to provide great community-focussed service is essential, along with the ability to get along with everyone who uses the shop.

You must be extremely reliable, punctual, enjoy good health and not spend a lot of time away, as we don’t have many staff and it can be difficult to cover absences - a cancelled shift may mean the shop has to close. Minimum age is 18 as you will be selling alcohol and to***co.

Applicants must be confident and happy to work solo (after training). You must have a proactive approach to work, prioritising customers but also ensuring the store remains clean and tidy, the shelves well stocked and new deliveries put away promptly. Some moving of heavy objects is necessary.

The role is a very responsible one. You must be numerate and show great attention to detail to ensure accuracy of cash transactions and computer data entry. You must strictly follow Post Office procedures and comply with the high standards required by both us and Post Office Ltd.

Experience is preferred but not essential for someone willing to learn. A criminal records check will be undertaken.

Your own vehicle may be necessary to get to the village due to very limited public transport, though a subsidised bus service may be available from Andover and some local villages (details available).

We offer fixed hours of work (times may be somewhat negotiable) but you should have the flexibility and willingness to do extra hours from time to time to cover colleagues' sickness and holidays etc. Hours will be about 20 or more per week, rising to 29.5 per week from September. Hours will include a 7.5 hour shift on Saturdays.

We would prefer the successful applicant to start immediately.

If more than one suitable applicant applies we may be able to split the shifts or offer rotating weeks, if this is what all parties agree.

Please write to us at [email protected], preferably attaching your CV. Alternatively, drop your details into the shop for the attention of Kevin and Lisa.
