Shenfield W**e Co. cigar of the Week: Juan Lopez Selección No. 2. 🔥

This is a bit of a hidden gem in the world of Cuban ci**rs, but one that's earned itself a loyal following amongst Havana aficionados! Founded in the 1870s by Spanish businessman Juan Lopez Diaz, the Juan Lopez brand might not be as widely recognised as some of its Cuban counterparts, but it's certainly one worth getting to know.

The Selección No. 2 is the star of the range, and for good reason. This handmade Robusto delivers a wonderfully rich, medium to full-bodied smoke, with plenty of warming spice, dark chocolate notes and that unmistakable Cuban earthiness.

What would we pair it with? We'd suggest a well-aged rum, ideally something with notes of vanilla, caramel and oak to complement the cigar's chocolatey richness and spice. Alternatively, a good aged Cognac would make a rather lovely companion!

What a night! We knew that our Nyetimber Tasting would be popular, but until the tickets went on sale, we didn't quite realise how popular. So much so that we actually had to deliver two back-to-back tastings last Thursday!!

The outright favourite of the evening was the Blanc de Blancs: zesty citrus, orchard apple and a creamy, biscuity edge, with a long, slightly saline finish. It’s delicious on its own as an aperitif, or try it with oysters or smoked salmon.

A very close second was the 1086 by Nyetimber Prestige Cuvée 2014: rich and elegant, with baked apple, poached pear, apricot and buttery pastry, plus nearly nine years on the lees. Pair it with lobster, scallops or a roast chicken.

And judging by how quickly they disappeared, the canapés were a hit too!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for last night’s Nyetimber tasting, and to Mark for taking us through such a special line-up of English sparkling w**e. We’re already looking forward to welcoming Mark and Nyetimber W**es back for our Annual Christmas W**e Tasting on Friday 6th November.

Last two tickets remaining! 📣 We invite you to discover a taste of Irish Wh***ey this November, by joining us for an evening exploring the whiskies of Clonakilty Distillery, hosted by Global Brand Ambassador Paddy Gilley.

Based on Ireland’s rugged Atlantic coast in County Cork, Clonakilty does things a little differently. Barley is grown on the family farm and locally in Cork, fermentation is extended to develop more flavour, and the spirit is triple distilled before being matured in their warehouse overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, where the coastal conditions play their part in the finished wh***ey.

Across the evening, Paddy will guide us through six Clonakilty whiskies, giving us the story behind the distillery, its distinctive approach to wh***ey-making and, of course, what to look for in the glass.

Each wh***ey will be complemented by a carefully paired tasting board, chosen to bring out the flavours along the way.

2006 vs 2026: a lot has changed in the world of w**e! 🍷

As we approach our 20th anniversary, we've been reflecting on just how much has changed since we first opened our doors in 2006. And quite a lot has happened in two decades! Including...

🍷 Our own w**e knowledge has grown enormously! When Nish started the business in 2006, he knew relatively little about w**e. It's been a long journey of discovery, endless questions and tasting an insane amount of w**e!

🍷 Our tastes have become more adventurous. The classics are still going strong, but there's a growing appetite for lesser-known grapes, regions and styles.

🍷 We're drinking differently. There's more interest in drinking less but better, choosing quality over quantity and exploring low- and no-alcohol alternatives.

🍷 English w**e has come a long way. Once something of a novelty, English w**es are now winning international recognition and competing with some of the world's most established w**e regions.

🍷 W**e production has grown closer to home. According to **egb, Essex is now England's third-largest county for vineyard area. Who'd have thought we'd have such a thriving w**e industry on our doorstep?

But one thing that hasn't changed is the Shenfield W**e Co. experience, starting with a warm welcome for everyone who walks through our doors!

Whether you're looking for a special bottle, advice on food pairings or simply fancy trying something different, there's nothing quite like chatting to someone who really knows their w**e.

Twenty years on, we still taste every w**e before it earns a place on our shelves, and we still love introducing customers to bottles they might never have chosen themselves.

It's International Gin and Tonic Day, and whilst we never need an excuse to enjoy a G&T, we do think it's a very good opportunity to celebrate a little Essex craftsmanship! 🍸

As we approach the 20th anniversary of Shenfield W**e Co, we're shining a light on some of the producers whose bottles have earned a place on our shelves. And today, we're keeping things close to home with Tide's Fortune Essex Dry Gin from East Coast Distillery.

Made in small batches on the North Essex coast, Tide's Fortune uses locally sourced coastal botanicals, including Sea Buckthorn and Sea Purslane, alongside traditional juniper to create a gin that really does have a taste of Essex about it!

With fragrant juniper, bright citrus notes, warming anise and a hint of smokiness, it's a beautifully balanced dry gin. And given today's occasion, we'd recommend enjoying it with plenty of ice, a good-quality tonic and a sliver of lemon.

We've always believed in supporting independent producers who care about what goes into their bottles, especially when they're practically on our doorstep!

Some bottles come and go over the years, whilst others become part of the furniture. And for us, Cognac Frapin is very much in the latter camp! 🥃

As we approach our 20th anniversary, we're celebrating some of the producers we've built wonderful relationships with over the years, and Frapin is certainly one of them.

In fact, you could almost call it our 'house' Cognac. It's a name we've confidently recommended for years, and we've even had the pleasure of hosting tastings with Frapin's cellar master, Patrice Piveteau, giving our customers the chance to learn from the man behind these exceptional spirits.
