🥃 Bad Water White Rum

🇳🇿 The Wines of Te Mata Estate 🔥 SOLD OUT EVENT 🔥

This week, we welcomed Toby Buck to Liquorice for a very special evening exploring the wines of Te Mata Estate, one of New Zealand’s most iconic and historic wineries.

Established in 1895 in Hawke’s Bay, Te Mata is New Zealand’s oldest continuously operating winery, and Toby guided us through six stunning wines that showcased exactly why the estate enjoys such a formidable reputation. From elegant whites to beautifully structured reds, the wines demonstrated a style that leans towards classic European restraint and finesse rather than overt New World exuberance.

Alongside a selection of cheeses and cured meats from the deli, guests enjoyed a fascinating insight into the history, philosophy and family story behind Te Mata, making for an evening that was as educational as it was delicious.

A huge thank you to Toby for hosting, and to everyone who joined us for another fantastic sold-out tasting.

From a wine-themed World Cup and a celebration of Essex’s finest vineyards to a deep dive into modern Australian winemaking, we’ve got plenty to keep your glasses full this summer. 🇲🇦 What a night! Our second wine dinner of 2026 at Liquorice transported us to the vibrant flavours of Morocco, and it’s safe to say this SOLD OUT evening was one to remember.

Working alongside , we paired four fantastic wines with a menu packed full of colour, spice and texture. We began with herb-stuffed flatbreads, Middle Eastern honey-spiced hummus, whipped feta, beetroot dip and marinated olives – the perfect sharing-style start to the evening.

Next came beautifully crisp Moroccan-spiced chicken briouats, served with tomato and fennel chilli jam, pickled onion and saffron yoghurt, before moving on to the star of the show: slow-braised lamb shoulder tagine with jewelled couscous and pomegranate & mint yoghurt.

To finish, guests enjoyed a stunning cinnamon and blood orange panna cotta, topped with saffron cream, pistachio baklava crumb and steam ginger syrup.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for another memorable evening of food, wine and great company. If you missed out this time, keep an eye on our upcoming events – they sell fast! 🍷✨
