Something different from us this evening...⁠

I am sat writing this with an ice pack on my hip whilst sipping a honey and ginger tea to soothe my sore throat and stuffy head, when I receive this message from Shadia… ‘the back of my left ankle is hurting and I have no idea why’. We are now officially at peak marathon paranoia and feel like we’re falling apart! That’s all part of it though, right?⁠
⁠
This weekend Shadia and I will be taking on the London Marathon. It has been a REAL journey for us both which started well over a year ago.⁠
⁠
Shadia and I first met on a ‘fun run’ over 20 years ago running from Lelant to St. Ives and bonded over our matching trainers. We then went on to become firm best friends. So... it only feels fitting to take on, what will be the hardest (potentially least fun) run of our lives together! We have gone from sharing bottles of wine to sharing energy gels and knee strengthening tips.⁠
⁠
Before signing up, I can speak for both of us when I say, we were not runners. We both wanted to take on the challenge to prove to ourselves we can do tough things and raise money for charities that are really close to our hearts. The training has been incredibly tough, long runs spent questioning our life choices and tears have been shed. ⁠
⁠
Shadia will be running for samaritans and I will be running for Alzheimers research. We are so grateful to every single person that has already donated, it really does help us through the pain! ⁠

Small creative business owners... do you ever feel like you spend more time buried in paperwork than actually doing what you love? Let’s chat in the comments please!⁠

Running a small business isn’t always the dreamy creative life I thought it would be. When my sisters and I first sat down to create The St. Ives Co. back in 2018, I had visions of myself in a light airy room with an easel and some watercolours 🤣 ... the truth is there’s a lot of paperwork, money management, and the ‘not-so-fun’ bits that come with it. The last few months have been particularly 'not so fun' but lets save that chat for another day.⁠
⁠
I often find myself stuck in spreadsheets, forgetting what I’m actually good at. But lately, myself, Tegen and our chief visual merchandiser Shadia have been making space again for the part of the business that started it all – drawing, doodling, designing & getting excited by new products and creatives!⁠
⁠
In the early days, whole afternoons were spent sketching motifs of St. Ives, bringing to life tea towels, cushions, greeting cards, and posters you now find in our shop. And we know... it’s been a while since we’ve released an entire new range of design. But rest assured, behind the scenes, fresh drawings and exciting products are in the works. And honestly? I’m LOVING it. It feels so good to be back in the creative flow, and I can’t wait to share what’s coming next. 💙⁠
