When you’re reading Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood and the house you’re staying in has a cocktail recipe book with a ‘Margaret Atwood’ cocktail in it, it’s a sign that the universe wants you to have a cocktail. Delicious!
In another cosmic coincidence, the name of the house shares its name with Bromley House Library from which I borrowed Cat’s Eye. This led to some confusion when the owner phoned about check-in and I presumed they wanted me to return the book.
To follow our Margaret Atwoods - whilst in the SW motherland, for old times’ sake - we partook of a ‘brandy and lovage’. Also delicious! Thank you, Laura, for the lovagely gift!
Normal opening hours resume tomorrow. See you then!

Very much enjoyed reading ´Martyr!’ by Kaveh Akbar. Thank you to the BB Book Club member who donated it to the July Book Swap.
Next up for me: Cat’s Eye by Margaret Atwood. This is the book club choice for September. We’ll be meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday 8th September to discuss it. Based on the first few chapters, I’m very much looking forward to reading the rest of it! New members welcome; just read the book and come along!
How is everyone else’s summer reading going? Any recommendations?

A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ALLBARONE 📣
Allbarone is keen to remind you that we are operating slightly reduced opening hours this August. As you can see, he’s already in holiday mode …
He’d hate for you to forget that, after we close at 8.30 this evening, we’re actually not open again ‘til 12pm on Thursday.
Whilst Allbarone recognises and condones your current resolve not to have a midweek drink, he also recognises that sometimes this resolve doesn’t make it past Wednesday. He’d hate for you to have to go to the supermarket for your w**e, should such a change of heart occur between now and then.
He only has your best interests at heart.
He wants you to know that we’re open ‘til 8.30 this evening for all of your w**e needs.

We haven’t posted much about recent events, mainly due to a lack of photos (and a bit due to a lack of time/effort) so here’s a photo dump of recent events and a bit of other recent stuff:
1-4: Lovely evening for a Greek W**e Tasting
5: Most popular w**e at our German W**e Tasting: 2005 Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett, Thanisch. Delicious and a steal at £25.50 a bottle!
6: Higher or Lower? Saturday afternoon fun at our Brigitte’s ‘Play Your Cards Right’ Tasting. Well done to John, Ruth and Simon, who not only made it to the end with 100% accuracy but then all nailed the price of the tie-break w**e. Good skills!
7. Most popular w**e and snack pairing at our recent tasting of the same name: Rutherglen Muscat and chocolate covered coffee beans!
8-12: last night’s ’Something A Bit Different’ tasting. 😍
13: Whitebox cocktails fully re-stocked! Highly recommend the Raspberry Clover Club. 👍

We’re ready for the weekend!
We have a beautiful new floral display from the lovely Sanita’s Flowers and three great new tables in the garden made by Richard. Thank you Richard and Sanita!
