The beer tree
Beer styles branch into 2 main branches, lagers and ales.
Lagers are generally lighter in body and more crisp than ales, but there are a few exceptions. The taste is usually clean, and they are better served very cold.
Ales are generally more complex and fuller than lagers, but not always. They are usually maltier and more aromatic as well.
Lagers branch into Light lagers, Pale lagers and Bocks (black). Pilsners fall under pale lagers.
Ales branch into Pale ales, Stouts, Browns, Porters, Belgians, Sours, Wheats and Ambers. Under the
Pale ale further splits into 3 popular styles, India Pale ale, American Pale ale and Bitters. Commercial producers are only making Pale and light lagers available compared to craft brewers who try to give the wide spectrum. There is a lot to explore in beer styles.
