FOUR DEAD, 14 INJURED IN HORRIFIC MUMBWA ROAD ACCIDENT INVOLVING MINIBUS AND TRUCK
Four people have died , while 14 others sustained serious injuries in a fatal road traffic accident that occurred today, 22nd May 2025, around 13:00 hours at the Mumbwa-ZAF junction along the Mumbwa-Lusaka road.
Involved in the accident were two motor vehicles: a Toyota Hiace minibus and a Volvo truck.
The Toyota Hiace minibus (PSV), registration number BLC 3234ZM, was being driven by Peter Mwenda, aged 34, of Garden House, Lusaka. He was traveling towards Lusaka with 16 passengers on board.
The Volvo truck, bearing registration numbers ARB 730 and BAC 5792T, was being driven by Cephas Chipika, aged 34, of Kafwabi Village, Mumbwa District, and was moving from east to west.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident happened when the driver of the minibus attempted to overtake improperly and, in the process, collided head-on with the oncoming truck.
Due to the impact, three unidentified male passengers and one unidentified female passenger sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot.
Fourteen other passengers sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Mumbwa District Hospital.

The bodies of the deceased are lying in the Mumbwa General Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.
Both motor vehicles were extensively damaged.
Further investigations have been instituted.
