Stilfontein is gatvol. The sewer pumps are not working and sewage runs straight into the pannetjie, with the air permanently smelling foul.
Wayne Knighton writes: "Stilfontein, we have a serious problem.
The condition of our “pannejie” has become unacceptable. The smell this morning alone is overwhelming — thick, rotten, and impossible to ignore. The water is no longer water… it’s solid green, stagnant, and contaminated. Raw sewer is clearly flowing into it from blocked and neglected drainage systems.
This is not just unpleasant — this is a major public health risk.
Stagnant, polluted water like this becomes a breeding ground for harmful bacteria, parasites, and disease-carrying insects. It contaminates the air we breathe, worsens sinus and respiratory conditions, and places our most vulnerable — especially the elderly in our many old age homes — in real danger. With winter starting, these risks only increase.
But here is the real question:
Why has the NPOS not visited or addressed this site?
This is not a small issue. This is a visible, ongoing environmental and health hazard affecting an entire town. How can something this serious be ignored?
Let’s be honest:
We are being forced to live in conditions that resemble a sewer plant.
And yet, less than a 2 kilometer away, officials gather, meetings happen, and still this is left untouched.
This is not just neglect.
This is a slap in the face to every resident of Stilfontein.
We deserve clean, safe surroundings.
We deserve accountability.
We deserve action.
How long are we expected to live like this?
Wrotten smelling town, days without water, days with our power, months to years without service delivery some potholes are older then 3 years Street lights not working for years and we beg everyday and then we are told we must stop being so negitave and it's always just reported but there is never action and this is going on for years.
I think it's time to take our town back and demand as this is our town we pay to stay here and we pay for service deliver that we don't get. It's time we stand together and fight for our right Stilfonteiners. "
