Crystallum.

A Latin word for crystal. A fitting name for wines whose reputation has been built on clarity of site, purpose and expression.

Today marks the release of the latest Leeu Passant wines. Each one tied to a site and a story worth preserving.

Franschhoek Sémillon from vines planted in 1963, carrying the depth and texture that only old vines seem capable of delivering.

Chardonnay grown high on the Helderberg slopes, balances freshness with substance.

Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Stellenbosch’s finest mountain slopes is refined and complete.

Basson Cinsault from the oldest recorded vineyard, planted in 1900 and still producing fruit today, remains one of the most compelling arguments for South Africa’s old vine heritage.

The Leeu Passant honours the great dry red of the 70’s. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Cinsault.

The wines themselves are unmistakably Leeu Passant. Thoughtful rather than showy. Detailed rather than dramatic. Wines built from patience in the vineyard and restraint in the cellar.

Some bottles are bought for a weekend.
These are bought for a cellar, a dinner table, or a memory yet to be made.

The weekend called. It said bring wine.

Vincent Carême’s Vouvray Les Clos is the sort of bottle that turns a slow Saturday lunch into a long one. Loire Valley Chenin Blanc with energy, texture and the kind of freshness that keeps you reaching for another glass. Think citrus, orchard fruit and that chalky edge that makes great Vouvray so addictive.

No occasion needed. The weekend is reason enough.

Available now. Open cold. Invite friends. Or don’t.

We have introduced Eight Gates before, with Chenin Blanc and their beautiful red blend. With the changing season it’s time for Pinotage to shine.

This is Pinotage with restraint, detail and confidence. Dark cherry, spice, dried herbs and earth, held together by freshness rather than weight. The fruit comes from old bush vines in Wellington, fermented naturally and matured with the sort of patience that lets the vineyard speak first.

It feels polished without losing its South African identity.

A serious bottle of wine, yet light footed and easy to enjoy.

Nestled between Elim and Cape Agulhas, and just 9km from the ocean, lies the unique Strandveld Vineyards.

This wind-swept winery derives its name from the belt of land which spans the tempestuous tip of Africa’s southernmost coastline. At almost 35 deg S, this part of our fair Cape is characterised by severe winds, billowing mist and below average temperatures. A unique combination of maritime climate, alternating sites and diverse soil types work together to create the terroir which distinguishes the wines of Strandveld Vineyards.

That’s Paulus Wine Co.

Chenin Blanc with detail, shape and tension. Wines built from old vineyards in Swartland and Stellenbosch by Paul Jordaan and Pauline Roux, with each release finding more and more people paying attention.

The new vintages have arrived at Wine Menu Kramerville and online. If you know, you know. If you don’t, this is a good place to start.

The new Wolf & Woman vintages have landed at Wine Menu.

Wines with energy, tension and the sort of detail that keeps pulling you back to the glass. Jolandie Fouché continues to shape some of the most compelling wines coming out of the Swartland right now, with the vintage releases already drawing serious praise for their precision and character.

From the layered Chenin Blanc to the savoury, spice-driven Syrah, these are wines built from old vines, granite, iron-rich soils and instinct. No excess. No makeup. Just clarity of place and a winemaker fully in stride.

Last night at Wine Menu Kramerville, Miles Mossop poured the new releases himself. Honest wines. Thoughtful wines. The kind that reward attention without demanding it.

A room full of people listening closely, asking questions, and going back for another taste says enough.

This Saturday at Wine Menu Kramerville, we’re pouring wines from Pilgrim Wines

Pilgrim is one of those producers that reminds you how much energy still exists in South African wine. Small production. Curious minds. Wines built around old vineyards, unusual cultivars, and a willingness to take risks where others stay comfortable. (Pilgrim Wines)

Henry and Riëtte Kotzé have built Pilgrim around discovery. Chenin Blanc from old vines in the Voor-Paardeberg. Viura. Bastardo do Castello. Wines that feel alive with personality and intent.
