Lochlea Sowing Edition 46%, R1,295
Lochlea Fallow Edition 46%, R1,295

Three releases join our shelves for the first time from Lochlea, a craft producer in the lowlands of Scotland: Orchard & Oak, matured in first-fill bourbon, virgin American oak and Calvados casks; Sowing edition, in first-fill bourbon barrels; and Fallow Edition, in Oloroso and PX sherry casks.

An independent, family-owned farm distillery based in Ayrshire, southwest Scotland, Lochlea began distilling in 2018, using only its own barley and maturing its wh**ky on the estate.

Oban 12yo Heart Of The Harbour 54.7%, R2,895

A limited edition from the Oban distillery in the West Highlands, released in 2025 as part of Diageo’s annual Special Releases series. It is two years younger than the core 14 Year Old and bottled at full strength. Matured for 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks.

Expect a gentle prickle and honeyed spice. Seaweed and citrus. Smooth and creamy with tinned peaches and a warming spiced finish.

Lagavulin 12yo Grain & Embers 56.5%, R1,995

A limited edition from the Lagavulin distillery on Islay, released in 2025 as part of Diageo’s annual Special Releases series. It is the latest edition of the cask strength 12 Year Old, which has appeared in the series almost every year since 2002. Produced from peated malt and matured in refill casks and in European oak butts seasoned with PX and Oloroso sherry. Non-chillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at a cask strength.

Expect bold, smouldering peat, wood ash with hints of soap. Smooth, robust and sweet with notes of spicy, savoury and salty with a long drying peaty aftertaste.

The Malt Wh**ky Year Book 2027 has arrived! Now in its 22nd edition, this annual publication remains one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date references in the world of wh**ky. This year's edition covers more than 1,000 malt wh**ky distilleries worldwide, alongside tasting notes, industry insights, interviews and articles from leading wh**ky writers.

We're also particularly proud that, for the second time, our very own Wh**kyBrother founder and co-owner, Marc Pendlebury, is featured in this year's edition as part of a series of interviews exploring the theme of "new beginnings". It's wonderful to see some local representation in this internationally respected publication!

Boplaas 15yo 46%, R1,350

This week, we welcome a new limited edition single grain wh**ky from Calitzdorp in the Klein Karoo: Boplaas 15 year old, the distillery's oldest wh**ky to date. Distilled from South African yellow maize and matured for 15 years, including five years in Port casks. Limited to just 530 bottles.

Expect vanilla, toasted oak, ripe yellow fruit and honey. Cinnamon and gentle baking spices with a gentle sweetness and warming finish.

An interesting top 5 this month, with wh**ky from Ireland, Scotland, South Africa and Wales all making an appearance, three of the whiskies are Wh**kyBrother exclusive single casks!

Top spot goes to our new Dunville’s 12yo Exclusive, delivering a sherried Irish single malt that quickly won over fans. In 2nd, The Irishman Single Malt made a strong showing as the Malt of the Month. GlenAllachie 12yo claims 3rd place, maintaining its momentum. In 4th our Metanoia Exclusive continues its performance after last month’s debut, while in 5th, our Penderyn Exclusive makes a surprising reappearance as the last of the stock is snapped up.

A new single cask, cask strength release from the famed Islay distillery, Bruichladdich. This 14 year old is a clean, honest example of the distillery's unpeated character, with full maturation in a bourbon hogshead, bottled by Single & Single - the South African independent bottler marking its first release since founder Yossi Schwartz sadly passed away in 2024.

Kilkerran is produced at Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, revived in 2004 and owned and operated by the same family and production team behind Springbank. Its whiskies follow the same traditional approach to production and showcase the distinctive Campbeltown character.
