In 1986 Colin Collard started Wine of the Month with the idea to help wine lovers discover the very best wines at the very best prices. Wine of the Month is the only wine store in South Africa to have an independent panel of wine judges. The panel tastes over 2,000 wines each year. Each wine is judged in a blind tasting. This means no judge ever sees a label. You can buy the best of these red and

white wines online. Or, if you prefer give us a call and our wine advisors will gladly answer any questions you may have over the phone. All wines are conveniently delivered direct to your door by our friendly drivers. We supply wine direct to over 40 000 customers throughout South Africa and its neighbouring countries.

The Carmen Stevens Merlot has a layered aroma spectrum that greets you on the nose. Beautiful ripe cherry and blackberry fruit becomes evident and is complemented by a fresh eucalyptus/minty aroma. The palate entrance is refreshing and carries the ripe black currant fruit that flows into dark chocolate. The acidity brings tension to the palate that is interwoven with the tannin structure that adds palate weight. Finally, the wine carries just enough oak to complement the fruit and freshness of the wine.

In 1699, Christiena Van Loveren left Holland by ship with her husband, Willem Van Zyl, in search of a new beginning in South Africa. Among her belongings was her bridal Trousseau chest, which was passed down through generations and eventually inherited by Jean Retief.
Inspired by this treasured heirloom, Jean chose to rename the farm Van Loveren in honor of Christiena. Today, the beautifully preserved chest, also known as a kist, is proudly displayed in the Van Loveren tasting room and featured on every bottle of Christiena wine.
