Le Bonheur, meaning happiness, was a historic trading post for French Huguenot travellers and traders between Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Paarl. With natural springs and lush vegetation, the estate was the ideal setting to rest and socialise. Centuries later, not much has changed! Le Bonheur has some of the oldest Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in South Africa. These vines are nurtured to remain the backbone of the estate wines for decades to come. The spirit continues as the wines are crafted to ignite moments of shared joy.

SMALL BATCH BRANDY

The quaint Klein Karoo hamlet of Calitzdorp, with its verdant farmlands, uniquely rare succulent Karoo veld and majestic Swartberg Mountains as backdrop, has been home to the Nel family of Boplaas since the mid-19th century. Their first export of carefully crafted Cape potstill brandy went all the way to London a journey involving ox-wagons traversing the hinterland to the harbour at Cape Town and voyage across the tempestuous Atlantic Ocean. Aged five years in old port casks in the Klein Karoo, this small-batch Brandy is a delightful blend. Its enticing aroma recalls dried fruit, while the deep golden hue reveals a medium-bodied palate with exquisite vanilla and dried-fruit notes.

We're celebrating Cabernet Sauvignon Day with David Finlayson 2022. Produced from different sites in the Stellenbosch area, the wine exudes absolute purity of varietal character and displays true Cabernet Sauvignon cassis and blackcurrant flavours. The wine has a fresh, minty, red berry fruit spectrum on the palate backed by mocca vanilla oak. Firm structured tannins and a long finish on the palate show good ageing potential. Beautifully paired with lamb shank, ribeye or mushroom risotto.

Springfield Estate is a family-run wine farm owned by ninth-generation winemaker Abri Bruwer and his daughter Emma Bruwer, assistant winemaker. They are descendants of French Huguenots, who came to South Africa from the Loire in 1688 with bundles of vines under their arms.

The 2025 vintage of Springfield Estate's Life from Stone Sauvignon Blanc presents a vivid expression of its quartz-rich terroir. It offers pronounced aromas of lime, gooseberry and freshly cut green pepper, complemented by tropical nuances of passion fruit. The palate is zesty and mouth-watering, with a stony minerality and a lingering guava undertone on the finish. This wine pairs excellently with seafood dishes, fresh salads and goat’s cheese.
