🇺🇸 As America begins celebrating 250 years of our nation’s history this Independence Day weekend, I’d like to recognize the people who truly built this country—our small businesses and the hardworking men and women who have dedicated their lives to them.
Small businesses have always been the backbone of America. They sponsor our little league teams, support local charities, create jobs, and know their customers by name. Unfortunately, it seems like there’s a big corporate store on every corner now, making it harder than ever for family-owned businesses like ours to survive.
Many of you know that, in addition to owning Gainesboro Market, I also own a small propane company. This week I had to renew my CDL medical certificate. Between my work schedule and the DMV being closed, I was running out of time and wasn’t sure how I was going to get it done.
Thankfully, I found Steve, the owner of Green Light DOT Exam in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Not only did Steve stay late to fit me into his schedule, but after spending a few hours talking with him, I realized I had met one of those people who truly believes in helping others. His business isn’t just about giving DOT physicals—he’s built it around making life easier for truck drivers and companies. If your business has enough CDL drivers, Steve will even come to your business or home to perform DOT physicals, helping keep drivers on the road and companies operating.
That kind of service is becoming harder and harder to find.
As we celebrate 250 years of America, let’s remember that this nation wasn’t built only by large corporations. It was built by millions of hardworking individuals and families who took a chance on themselves and served their communities with pride.
If you’re a CDL driver, or your company has drivers who need DOT physicals, I highly recommend Steve at Green Light DOT Exam.

Most importantly, this weekend, if you have the choice, choose local. Whether it’s your hometown convenience store, restaurant, hardware store, farm market, or service provider, every dollar spent at a small business helps keep the American Dream alive.
From all of us at Gainesboro Market, thank you for supporting local businesses—not just ours, but all the families who work every day to keep America’s small towns strong.
🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day, God Bless America, and God Bless the small businesses that helped build this great nation. 🇺🇸
