Southern Four Cylinder Mod 4

Southern Four Cylinder Mod 4 The purpose of this page is to promote a class of race cars that is affordable and still competitive and appealing to the the race fans.

The Mod 4 also called Pro 4, T4 and F4 modified is basically a modified slightly scaled down and running a basically stock 4 cylinder engine. They must have a stock bottom end and pull 12 inches of vacuum at 1200 rpm. Tires must be a DOT minimum 360 tread wear or a Legend pull off tire. See Red River Speedway rules/ Southern 4 cylinder for full details.

Update: I have a set of by-laws typed up for the Red River Mod 4 Association. I based them of Lawton Speedway Racing Association's by-laws. I also have a membership application typed up. I will get copies made for everyone. The next step will be to have an organizational meeting for the association. Progress is slow but we are moving forward. I will let y'all know when the meeting is scheduled.

I spoke at length today with Mark Moseley. The 3:00 announcement that caused so much trouble on the 29th was NOT directed at Mod 4's.
The track was receiving multiple calls from 305 Sprint guys who were rained out at other tracks, wanting to run at RRS. The "must be legal to compete" announcement was directed at 305 Sprints. It was a total misunderstanding that sure caused plenty of hard feelings. Enough about that it is water under the bridge!
The track still wants us to pull together, get on the same page and race our cars. To date Red River Speedway has done everything they said they would do:
-Track did open
-Track did run 7 classes opening night
-Track did pay full purse for all classes
-Track did come up with weight concession to equalize
non legal cars
-Track did put us on the schedule.
We might get another date to race in late September or October.
If we get to run again this year it will be under rules that are posted on the web site with weight penalty of 300 # for non legal cars.
Pretty simple: If your car does not fit the rules add 300 #
forward of the rear of the drivers seat.
Pretty simple: Stop complaining, gripping, accusing, name calling,
and general fowl behavior and we can get a class of
cars that's fun, affordable, and here for future
drivers to enjoy.

Our next item on the agenda is to form the mod 4 association. I have a copy of Lawton Speedways LSRA by laws. I am trying to simplify them to better fit our needs. I will let you all know when I have something for y'all to look at. The problems we had last night can be fixed with a good set of rules. I think we proved we can get car count and I have absolutely no doubt the class will grow.
Elbows up drivers!!!

Congrates to Lance Lindsey on the Mod 4 feature win. Thanks to Red River Speedway for letting us run and to all the Mod 4 drivers who came out and ran.

Priority list per Mark Moseley:
1)Get cars to the track on the 29th

After the 29th
2)Form a Mod 4 Association
3)Elect 3 or 4 leaders
4)Hire a tech man
5)Work on rules for next year (he encourages to keep it cheap if
you want the class to succeed long term.)

The fastest growing racing association in the US today is the Race Saver 305 Sprints! Five years ago it was the Limited Modified but they peaked 2 years ago. As rules have opened up and cost to be competitive has risen the Limited Modifieds have begun a slight decline. This has happened over and over with car classes over the years. As cost to be competitive goes up car count goes down.

As you consider rules for next years Mod 4 class. Keep this in mind!

Question of the day...
What is the fastest growing racing association in US motorsports today?

08/14/2014

I had a real good phone conversation with Mark Moseley today. RRS is totally behind the Mod 4's if we can all get on the same page. I started this page to do just that. But I have been feeling like the rat in the trap, "I don't want the cheese anymore I just want out of the trap".
Well, after visiting with Mark today I am encouraged that we can get this done. We have a set of rules and a weight compensation for the non legal cars. (yes I'm weighting my car) This is a starting spot. We can work on some things this fall and winter to make it better for next season. For now lets just show up and run.
I encourage everyone that can to bring your cars tomorrow night 8/15/14 so we can hot lap, count cars and work towards a successful class of cars.
An updated schedule will be posted soon.
GO MOD 4'S !!!!!!

OK! Here is the low down. We are on the schedule for August 29!
Original rules are still in effect including tire rule. If you car does not fit the rules it must weigh 2500 #. Weight must be located forward of the back of the seat.
Purse:
1st $100
2nd 90
3rd 80
4th 70
5th 60
6th 50
7th 40
8th-15th 30
We may get to run 3 or 4 more times before the end of the season if we can get a car count.
This is it like it or not. Last Chance!
