Grapes the Wine Company featured in the Washington Post regarding the United States’ tariff rollout and the implications it has had on the wine business.

Breaking news as of today, President Trump has announced a 90-day pause on his foreign trade policy returning international tariffs back to 10%. Within just the first few days we have seen the effects ripple through the industry. We expect similar results if and when the president decides to double back down on tariffs.

Come get ready with me as wine merchant for a busy day of wine tastings at the Empire Merchants Spring Portfolio at Westchester Country Club.

After 25 years in this business it is always a pleasure meeting new vendors and seeing familiar colleagues.

I had the pleasure of spending the day with wineries and distributors like Kobrand, Groth, Chateau Haut-Brion, and Honig. We at Grapes love Honig's Sauvignon Blanc so much we've included it on our "Spring Sippers" list.

I also explored a fresh addition to our lineup, Ashes and Diamonds from Napa. I can't wait to visit their property and meet with their owner Kashy Khaledi on my next trip to Napa in May.

Bunratty Potcheen Irish Whiskey is technically moonshine at 90 proof. Also called “Irish Mountain Dew” was banned in Ireland by the British from 1661 up until 1997. Today Potcheen is a testament to Irish culture☘️

Today, we celebrate International Women’s Day and all women worldwide. We especially would like to spotlight all the women winemakers in the industry who keep pushing the boundaries of excellence, while continuing on with viticultural tradition that has been with us for centuries.
 
For those that know me well, I love my French wine. From my countless trips to Bordeaux and Burgundy, I’ve built deep business relations and friendships with hundreds of “vigneron” over my 25 years as a wine merchant. In a male dominated field like the wine industry, even in France, I am always amazed by the wines being produced by female-run wineries. The level of detail from crop to barrel cannot be denied when a women’s touch is in the mix. 
 
I would love to include all of the women in wine that I have had the pleasure to do business with, but for today’s message, I would like to highlight wines from 5 extraordinary woman with whom I have had the pleasure of spending time with over the years.

For our first , we introduce to you - Carol Duval-Leroy of Duval-Leroy Champagne.

Carol is the first female winemaker in champagne, taking over full ownership of the estate beginning in 1991 following the passing of her late husband Jean-Charles Duval-Leroy.

Fast forward to today, Carol Duval-Leroy has grown Duval-Leroy into the 15th largest champagne house exporting to over 50 countries worldwide!
