The most famous drink in golf was invented by the man himself — and named by a stranger who overheard him order it.

Arnold Palmer mixed iced tea and lemonade at home for years. By his own telling, he ordered it at a Palm Springs restaurant in the 1960s and a woman at the next table told the waitress, 'I'll have that Palmer drink.' The name stuck for good. Golfers have their own footnote: add vodka and it becomes a John Daly. Today, on his birthday, iced tea and lemonade is the toast.

Until 2013, US law forced Brazil's national spirit to call itself 'Brazilian rum' on the label.

Cachaça is distilled from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice — not molasses, which is what most rum starts from — and Brazilians have made it for roughly 500 years. But the US had no category for it, so bottles here had to carry the word rum. On 25 February 2013 the TTB finally recognized cachaça as a distinctive product of Brazil — and in exchange, Brazil recognized bourbon and Tennessee wh***ey as distinctly American.
