Our 9th year hosting for a week as volunteers at the Lochsa Historical Ranger Station on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. Had the privilege of talking with about 150 visitors during our stay. All seemed very appreciative of the this historic site being preserved and open to the public.

On a recent road trip to the Oregon coast, we were pleased to see a familiar face on a local license plate. The $40 Smokey Bear fee added to license plates supports the Keep Oregon Green Association. It was rolled out last summer, just in time for Smokey's 75th birthday. Since 1941, Keep Oregon Green has been a staunch ally in the fight against wildfires!

We are on a trip away from our home in the Northwest to the deserts and mountains of the Southwest. We stopped at the Smokey Bear Historical Park in Capitan, New Mexico and felt like we were on a pilgrimage as we visited Smokey’s grave. On a happier note, one of the best parts of our visit was meeting the new and effervescent manager of the Smokey Bear Museum Gift Shop, Nat Sammy. Here are some photos from our visit.
