This is from several years ago, but I think it’s worth revisiting.

When Leslie Stahl asked Trump why he constantly uses the term, “fake news,” he said he does it to discredit the media, so that when they report negative things about him, nobody will believe them.

It’s depressing to see how well his strategy works. All of these years later, he still uses that term anytime a reporter asks him a question he doesn’t want to answer. He hurdles insults at the reporters and the companies they represent.

As a former television news reporter, I can’t even imagine how I would react if he told me I was stupid or told me to be “quiet, piggy.” I am impressed by how these professional reporters are able to maintain their composure when being treated with such disrespect by the President of the United States.

It is very difficult and disheartening for me to know that people believe a compulsive liar over the words of journalists whose job it is to seek and tell the truth.

The "60 Minutes" correspondent made the disclosure during a live interview with Judy Woodruff, drawing a stunned silence from the audience.
